Job Description - Healthy Lifestyle Coordinator


 


Position Summary:


The Healthy Living Coordinator will oversee the group exercise program and staff, active older adults, and program development to include managing GX, events, HLOS (if needed) and teaching a minimum number of classes designated by supervisor. The Coordinator will also work with the Sr. Healthy Living Director in the management of Wellness floor, and wellness floor staff. Establish relationships through direct wellness floor hours with members to coach/educate them to implement habits that lead to a healthy lifestyle, always exuding a positive, approachable attitude and energy.


Essential Functions / Job Duties:



  • Works with Sr. Healthy Living Director and/or Associate Executive Director on Seniors Programming with supplies or as group exercise coordinator.

  • Works minimum ten floor hours on wellness floor to ensure proper safe use of equipment taught to members and/or teaches 7-10 classes per week.

  • Educates members about the YMCA mission and goals.

  • Encourages members to build relationships with others and join in the YMCA movement.

  • Develops relationships with businesses and partners to lead wellness lecture series monthly for members of all ages and in support of Hospital partnerships.

  • Trains Group Fitness Instructors/Personal Trainers in development of individual exercise/physical activity routines for members.

  • Actively recruits new Personal Training clients through membership engagement. (Calls/Emails/etc.)

  • Provides leadership, resources, and tools to subordinate staff that develops, encourages, and promotes an environment of creativity, quality service, positive and supportive interaction.

  • Assigns clear accountability and ensures continuous improvement to staff.

  • Implements and executes plans directed by Senior Healthy Living Director and/or Associate Executive Director.

  • Researches and hosts Health/Fitness Seminars, trainings, workshops.

  • Coordinates with master trainers on the weekends of such events and works evenings to host events.

  • Prepares performance reviews of the Wellness staff together with Senior Healthy Living Director and/or Associate Executive Director.

  • Provides membership service, answering phones, enrolling members in wellness programs, assisting in tours, and implementing service recovery techniques.

  • Promotes YMCA programs to members.

  • Ensures that Senior Healthy Living Director and/or Associate Executive Director are informed of all membership and fitness issues that arise.

  • Assist and supports the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards assigned.

  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community.

  • Coordinates special events and activities for the Wellness department.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities / Position Requirements:


Education and Experience:



  • Minimum of 2 years of proven success in a Supervisory/Management role in the health and fitness industry, or related field.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, human services, social services, recreation, business or equivalent work experience, preferred but not required.

  • Minimum 1 years of customer service, sales experience is preferred, not required.

  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Proficient in computer programs, including database and Microsoft Office.


Certificates and Licenses:


Required certifications: CPR/AED, First Aid, Group Fitness certifications, Prefer a Personal training (ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM) certificate.   All Certifications in areas of expertise must be up to date or attained within the first 90 days of hire. CPR/First Aid may be attained within the first 30 days of hire.

Performance Goals:


60%   Healthy Living Programs Revenue and Participation Growth – grow personal training, small group training, group exercise participation, healthy living, and medical wellness programming, as assigned by the Product Line VP of Healthy Living.


20%   Training & Development –works with Product Line VP of Healthy Living on operational plan and create a culture around driving healthy living programs and business growth/performance. Develop training manual(s) and protocols for the Family Center that can be duplicated and expanded to other centers.


20%   Hiring and Onboarding Staff – Support the recruitment and selection of high performing YMCA professionals. We need to build a “bench” of staff to grow our impact in South Florida. In addition, supporting with onboarding these new hires and positioning them for success.

  • Primarily works in an office environment/on the wellness floor, however, occasionally visits outdoor program sites.
