Healthy Living Coordinator, Northwest District YMCAs (Bethany and Rockwell Plaza)

JOB TITLE: Part-time Healthy Living Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Healthy Living Director

FLSA TYPE: Non-Exempt

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Healthy Living Director, the Healthy Living Coordinator will participate in the operation and development of Healthy Living programs for youth and adults. In addition, the Coordinator will recruit and supervise staff and volunteers related to such programs as well as assist in hiring.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Must stay current in CPRPR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually.
• Must be physically fit in order to demonstrate all levels of aerobic exercises.  
• Mentally alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents.  
• Physically strong in order to lift excessive weight (minimum of 50 lbs).  
• Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR effectively.  
• Strong communication skills with the ability to handle complaining or demanding individuals without internalizing or personalizing such comments.
• Ability to lead and motivate others.
• Recruit new fitness employees to ensure adequate provision of qualified staff.
• Assist Director with Annual Healthy Living Trackers 
• Maintain accurate incident/accident reports.
• Monitor certifications for all fitness staff.
• Consult with members interested in personal training program and assist HL program director in assigning trainers.
• Create ways to expand the group exercise programs.
• Work with volunteers for the Healthy Living program.
• Assist with fitness seminars, clinics and special events when possible.
• Help enforce YMCA policies and practices in wellness center.
• Maintain a good rapport with fitness program participants to respond to their needs and to represent the YMCA.
• Assist the Healthy Living Director in the development of promotional material as well as act in his/her absence.
• Attend staff meetings as requested by the program director.
• Orient new staff to association and branch procedures.
• Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors and volunteers.
• Other duties as assigned

EFFECT ON END RESULTS:

This position has a profound effect on membership revenue and retention. Qualified, certified and educated fitness staffs that reflect the YMCA mission. Equipment and facilities are clean, well maintained and safe. Program budget goals are met or exceeded. Fitness center and group exercise rules are enforced and re-evaluated annually.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Must be certified in PR/CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid (Training provided by the Y, if needed). 
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• College degree or working towards degree in a health-related program preferred; must have high school education or equivalent preferred.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. 
• YMCA Living Our Cause for Frontline Leaders** and YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise or National Certification/YMCA Strength and Conditioning***
