Position Description
Position Title: S.T.E.P. Associate – Healthy Pantry Center Associate Part-time
Location: Milford, Delaware
Schedule: Monday – Thursday 8:30am to 2:00pm
Rate of Pay: $18.00 an hour.
Department & Program Summary
This position is for individuals with intellectual developmental disabilities and/or neuro-diverse behaviors. In addition, S.T.E.P. Associate roles are fully integrated into the operations of our organization, playing a critical role in meeting departmental and organizational goals.
Position Summary
This position will provide assistance to support the daily operations of the Healthy Pantry Center (HPC). The HPC Associate will assist in distributing perishable and nonperishable food items to community members in need. This role will be responsible for duties relating to stocking, restocking, packaging, labeling, distributing food items, and assisting community members visiting the HPC. In addition, the HPC Associate will be able to sort through the donated infant and toddler formula and approve what is appropriate to place on the designated shelf. This role will require interaction and engagement with community members. Duties are routine and may require simple mathematics, good communication, and written skills. Duties will be provided with assistance and require teamwork. This role will be expected to follow health and safety practices and abide by building safety protocols.

Major Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
  • Food Distribution
    • Sorting food items and placing them in applicable bins.
    • Counting food items
    • Packaging meal boxes and/or backpacks for food distribution programs
    • Labeling Health Pantry shelves and food distribution boxes
    • Stocking shelves, refrigerators, and freezers with food products
    • Breaking down empty cardboard boxes and placing them in appropriate locations
  • Formula Sorter
    • Sorting, weighing, and disposing of infant and toddler formula and supplemental beverages.
    • Communicating with the volunteer room to make sure there is a consistent flow of infant and supplemental beverages that are being sorted.
    • Recording the weight of all expired and damaged formula
    • Keeping track of what has expired/will expire very soon.
    • Informing nutrition staff when large amounts of specialty formulas or supplemental drinks have been donated and when product is close to expiring.
    • Inspection of infant formula for the following:
      • Expiration dates (not to be confused with packaged dates and donation dates
      • Condition of containers (no dents, opened cans, etc.)
      • Reviewing lot numbers for recalls utilizing an online recall search engine
  • Customer Service
    • Greet staff, visitors, community members and guests.
    • Assists community members with shopping needs.
    • Be polite to all staff, visitors, community members, and guests.
    • Assist community members with registration needs.
  • Follow health and safety protocols.
    • Wear a safety vest while working in or walking through the warehouse and HPC.
    • Follow handwashing procedures when handling food items.
    • Follow other building safety protocols/procedures while working.
    • Follow department procedures for cleaning shelves, equipment, and floors
  • Participate in the completion of special projects assigned to various departments
Qualifications:
  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Must possess a high school diploma/GED equivalent.
Competencies
  • Good mathematic skills, such as counting.
  • Ability to work autonomously/independently.
  • Good written and verbal skills
  • Excellent customer service skills – this position interacts with community members.
  • Safety Awareness
  • Good listening Skills- Being able to listen to instructions actively.
  • Reliability- Being punctual and reliable.
Physical Requirements
  • The role will be exposed to warehouse environments.
  • Protective equipment must be worn when and where required.
  • This role may require extended periods of standing, sitting, bending, lifting (up to 25 pounds), or squatting.
