HEART Dock and Donations Assistant

Status: Full Time 40 hours/week

Position Description

This role is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of HRM’s dock and the Heart Distribution Center to ensure a safe working environment and a good flow of donations for our volunteers to sort through.

Key Responsibilities

Dock

• Support dock staff/volunteers
• Maintain a clean, organized and safe work environment on the dock.
• Assist in the oversight of the maintenance of all pallet jacks, forklifts, baler, freezers and box trucks.
• Conduct regular safety inspections on equipment.
• Assist in staging the outgoing loads for HRM.
• Responsible for loading/unloading all semis, customers and partners.
• Other duties as assigned.

Donations

• Assist in the plan for the pickup, receiving, loading, unloading, storage, and delivery of all donations.
• Coordinate volunteer drivers to pick up donations.
• Maintain organization of the Distribution Center.
• Assist staff, partners and volunteers as needed.
• Ability to operate a box truck with DOT card
• Other duties as assigned.

Compliance and Safety

• Ensure all health, safety, and cleanliness standards are upheld.
• Identify and address any maintenance issues or hazards.
• Follow organizational policies regarding product handling and customer service.

Additional Responsibilities

• Assist with storewide events, promotions, and activities as needed.
• Provide input on improving shopping area operations and customer experiences.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED.

Skills and Abilities

• Strong organizational and multitasking  skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication  skills.
• Ability to lead and motivate a diverse  team.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite, POS systems).
• Passion for the nonprofit sector and the  organization’s mission.
• Forklift certification.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift items up to 50lbs for extended periods.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Ability to work Saturdays and evenings.
• Ability to pass a health exam to get a DOT Card 
• Ability to drive a box truck (will train)
