Heavy Civil Inspector (Water/Wastewater)

About the role

Techno is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Heavy Civil Inspector to support an infrastructure project in Yonkers, NY. You’ll play a key role in ensuring construction activities meet all specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations. This position is ideal for someone with strong field experience in heavy civil projects, including concrete structures, underground utilities, and environmental infrastructure.

What you'll do

• Perform daily field inspections of heavy civil construction activities, with an emphasis on underground storage containment tanks, reinforced concrete, and structural elements.
• Monitor contractor work for compliance with approved plans, specifications, and relevant codes.
• Verify correct installation and finishing of concrete, rebar placement, and formwork prior to pours.
• Observe and document field testing procedures (e.g., concrete cylinder breaks, soil compaction, welding inspections).
• Review engineering drawings and submittals to ensure materials and installation methods meet project requirements.
• Track construction progress and identify non-conforming work or safety concerns; escalate as necessary.
• Prepare clear and detailed daily inspection reports and maintain organized project records.
• Coordinate closely with project managers, construction teams, and regulatory agencies to support timely and quality execution.
• Assist in reviewing mix designs, shop drawings, and contractor submittals related to civil works.
• Enforce safety practices and environmental compliance in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Qualifications

• At least 4 years of field inspection experience in heavy civil construction, particularly with reinforced concrete and infrastructure projects.
• Experience with underground storage tanks, pump stations, and/or wastewater treatment plants is highly desirable.
• ACI Certification (Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I or higher) preferred.
• Experience with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Comfortable working across multiple inspection sites; reliable transportation and flexibility to travel are required.
• Proficient in reading construction plans, blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills; able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to accurate reporting and documentation.
• Deep understanding of job site safety and quality control procedures.

The expected salary range for this role in the New York City Metropolitan Area is $55 - $65 per hour. The total compensation, including salary and bonuses, is determined by various factors such as experience, skill level, location, and qualifications, which are evaluated during the interview process
