Job Description - Heavy Equipment & Small Engine Service Technician
We are seeking a dedicated Heavy Equipment & Small Engine Technician to support our construction fleet across Charleston, SC. This full-time role is essential for ensuring the reliable operation of light machinery, power tools, and other critical job site equipment across multiple projects in the Charleston area. The ideal candidate is mechanically skilled, safety-conscious, and enjoys a mix of shop-based and field service work while contributing to a highly organized and supportive team.
This position provides a balance between structured repair work in our Charleston, SC facility and hands-on troubleshooting at active job sites. Candidates should be self-motivated, capable of independently diagnosing mechanical and electrical systems, and committed to delivering dependable service. Key Responsibilities
Inspect, diagnose, and repair small engines, construction equipment, and power tools
Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections to extend equipment lifespan
Respond promptly to service requests at Charleston, SC job sites
Troubleshoot hydraulic, fuel, electrical, and ignition systems
Conduct post-repair performance tests to ensure safety and reliability
Maintain accurate digital maintenance records, service reports, and inspection logs
Stage and prepare equipment for deployment across Charleston, SC projects
Adhere to OSHA and DOT safety standards while keeping work areas organized
Proven experience as a mechanic, field service technician, or construction equipment maintenance professional
Hands-on knowledge of small engine repair, hydraulic systems, and electrical diagnostics
Ability to interpret technical manuals and follow manufacturer repair procedures
Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred
Ability to pass a background check
Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation
Strong organizational skills and capacity to work independently in the field
Education & Certifications
High school diploma or GED required
First Aid and CPR certifications preferred
Schedule & Work Environment
Full-time role, approximately 40 hours per week
Work is split between indoor shop repairs and outdoor job site visits throughout Charleston, SC
Reliable transportation required to the Charleston service facility
