Job Description - Heavy Equipment Mechanic

This is a full-time, hourly position working under a collective bargaining agreement at the National Training Center (NTC). 



Responsibilities: Perform periodic inspections per 49 CFR 396.17. Must be knowledgeable of 49 CFR 393 and meet the inspector qualifications outlined in 49 CFR 396.25 and 396.19.



Education: Must have a minimum of high school education, or a minimum of 4 years’ work experience in the maintenance field.



Certifications: ASE Certifications are desired but not required.



Requirements: Possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License. Mechanics should have a minimum of a Class B or the ability to obtain, but a Class A with Air Brake and Hazmat endorsements is preferred. Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 lbs. Must be able to work in field environments during adverse weather or terrain conditions. Must be able to ride or drive in commercial or tactical off-road vehicles and maneuver in desert conditions day or night. Must be able to work in high-noise areas.  Must be able to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and lift without difficulty.  Must be able to work with Computers, scanners, and maintenance databases.
