Position Summary

Southern Core Recycling is seeking a dependable and experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. This position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy equipment to support the daily movement, processing, loading, and unloading of scrap metal and other materials throughout our facility.

The ideal candidate has previous experience operating heavy equipment in a scrap metal, recycling, industrial, or similar environment. This individual should be safety-conscious, dependable, comfortable working outdoors, and able to work independently while following direction from supervisors.

Essential Responsibilities

• Safely operate heavy equipment including loaders, excavators, material handlers, cranes, forklifts, and other equipment as assigned.
• Load and unload scrap metal and other materials from trucks and other transportation equipment.
• Move, sort, stage, and process materials throughout the facility.
• Assist with maintaining an efficient flow of material throughout the yard.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and report mechanical, maintenance, or safety concerns to management.
• Perform basic equipment maintenance and housekeeping as assigned.
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and other employees regarding material movement and equipment operations.
• Interact professionally with customers and truck drivers when required.
• Assist with other yard and operational duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• Experience operating loaders, excavators, material handlers, or similar heavy equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
• Strong awareness of surroundings and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and follow direction from supervisors.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.
• Dependable, punctual, and professional.
• Commitment to safe work practices and proper equipment operation.

Preferred

• Experience operating multiple types of Heavy equipment. 
• Experience working around industrial processing equipment.
• Experience performing basic equipment inspections and maintenance.
