Job Description - Heavy Equipment Operator (Dump Truck Operator)
The Heavy Equipment Operator plays a vital role in transporting materials such as soil, gravel, sand, and debris to and from job sites safely and efficiently.
Essential Functions
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Operate a dump truck and other heavy equipment to haul and deliver materials to various locations.
Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, inspections, and maintenance. And perform daily inspections and basic maintenance of the dump truck (check oil, brakes, lights, tires, etc.). Report equipment issues to the maintenance team.
Ensure load is properly secured and within legal weight limits.
Troubleshoot equipment issues and work to resolve any problems efficiently and effectively.
Assist with loading and unloading materials as needed. Assist with site preparation and clean-up as required.
Follow site safety procedures and traffic laws at all times.
Communicate effectively with the site foreman and other team members.
Assist with operating other heavy equipment (e.g. skid steers, loaders) as needed.
Adhere to all company and regulatory safety guidelines and protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 2 years of experience operating dump trucks in a construction, excavation, or roadwork environment.
Valid CDL B, preferred.
Clean driving record.
Knowledge of DOT regulations and safety procedures.
Strong ability to conduct equipment inspections and perform basic maintenance tasks.
Strong understanding of safety protocols and best practices when operating heavy equipment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work in various weather conditions and challenging environments.
Ability to lift, carry, and move materials up to [50 lbs].
Ability to operate equipment for extended periods and work in outdoor, potentially hazardous environments.
Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and physical strength, such as equipment inspection and maintenance.
