$75,000–$80,000 base salary + benefits
Every other week at a project site; alternate weeks working remotely from home.
Are you the operator everyone trusts to train the new person?
If you enjoy showing someone how to operate equipment safely, explaining what to watch for, and helping them build confidence, this could be your next move. Adaptive Construction Solutions (ACS) is hiring an experienced heavy equipment operator to teach apprentices. You bring the equipment experience; we provide paid NCCER Instructor Certification training, established curriculum and slides, and support from our instructors as you learn to teach. No previous classroom teaching experience is required.
Pay and travel support
$75,000–$80,000 annual base salary, plus full benefits.
Approximately $5,000–$15,000 annually in combined per diem and travel incentive pay, depending on travel. These payments are separate from base salary.
Company credit card provided to book and pay for business travel expenses.
The first approximately two months involve less travel while you work toward certification. During this period, compensation will primarily be your base salary.
Your schedule
Travel to a project site every other week, approximately 50% travel. Choose an early Monday morning or late Sunday evening departure and return Friday.
Teach apprentices during the day on travel weeks. Weekends are off; Sunday evening travel is optional based on your departure preference.
Work remotely from home during alternate weeks, delivering virtual instruction and preparing for upcoming classes.
What you will do
Teach safe equipment operation, pre-use inspections, and equipment care through classroom instruction, demonstrations, and hands-on learning.
Use existing NCCER curriculum and slides to deliver onsite and virtual instruction and prepare apprentices for training assessments.
Explain operating procedures, reinforce awareness of jobsite hazards, provide feedback, and track apprentice skills and progress.
As you gain experience, develop hands-on training exercises and practical examples that connect lessons to equipment operation on the jobsite.
What you bring
At least three years of hands-on heavy equipment operating experience and a strong construction background.
Ability to communicate and teach in both English and Spanish is required.
Patience, clear communication, and an interest in helping apprentices succeed. Experience training new operators or coaching crew members is valuable.
Comfort with basic computer tools and willingness to learn virtual instruction platforms; ability to travel every other week.
Experience with equipment inspections, safe operating procedures, and routine equipment care. Existing NCCER credentials are preferred, but not required.
