Heavy Truck Driver

Summary

The CDL Commercial Truck Driver position is responsible for driving a vehicle with a capacity greater than 26,001 or more pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) in addition to light weight vehicles to transport products and perform a variety of tasks to coordinate the delivery of those products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Maintain Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) and meet all medical standards established by federal and state laws, rules and regulations (e.g. maintain expiring credentials up to date)
2. Drive vehicle with capacity greater than 26,001 or more pounds GVW and light weight vehicles while applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations to transport and deliver goods
3. Follow all Department of Transportation rules, regulations, policies and procedures and notify Management of any violations or driving disqualifications (e.g., driving violations, changes in driving status, criminal offenses, inspection reports, accident reports, etc.)
4. Follow Department of Transportation Substance Abuse Policy Requirements
5. Cautiously maneuver truck into loading or unloading position, following signals from team members to ensure safety
6. Drive truck to weigh station before and after loading and along route to determine weight and conform to safety and driving regulations
7. Maintain telephone contact with warehouse to receive instructions to be dispatched to new location and/or report incidents, accidents or problems encountered en route
8. Inspect truck before and after trips and submit report indicating truck condition and report serious mechanical problems to supervisor
9. Carefully plan routes to ensure deliveries are completed in an efficient and timely manner
10. Follow schedule assigned by Warehouse supervisor, this includes overnight runs based on business needs.
11. Understand and plan a fast and safe delivery route using maps or satellite tracking while calculating time to ensure timely delivery
12. Obtain customer’s signature to confirm delivery of products
13. Maintain driver mileage log according to regulations, policies and procedures
14. Maintain accurate fuel log detailing date and amount of fuel pumped into truck that correlate with miles en route
15. Prepare products to be delivered (e.g., confirm product order, label, pack and secure load with straps, etc.)
16. Assist in the safe staging, loading and unloading of products on/off truck while ensuring security of products at all times
17. Inventory and inspect products to be received or delivered
18. Ensure cleanliness and proper stocking of inventory in the work area
19. Maintain quality in the warehouse and report all damaged inventory
20. Keep equipment (e.g., truck, tractor-trailer, van, forklift, etc.) clean and in good working order
21. Maintain a professional relationship with customers, other drivers’ vendors and associates
22. Efficiently carry out all orders of supervisors while harmoniously working as part of a team
23. Obtain Forklift Certification according to Company requirements
24. Operate office machines, such as photocopiers and scanners, facsimile machines, voice mail systems and personal computers while following Company Confidentiality requirements
25. Utilize computerized data entry equipment and various word processing, spreadsheet and file maintenance programs to enter, store and/or retrieve information
26. Manage time to determine priorities in order to effectively accomplish a broad range of activities

Qualifications

1. Class A Commercial Driver License
2. Must meet the medical standards established by federal and state laws, rules and regulations for licensed commercial drivers 
3. Meet Department of Transportation Substance Abuse Policy Requirements 
4. Previous commercial driving experience
5. A clean driving record 
6. Sound knowledge of road safety regulations 
7. Previous experience working in a warehouse environment preparing or receiving shipment of products
8. Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate effectively in the English language
9. Ability to professionally handle complaints and unpleasant customers using decision making and analytical abilities
10. Strong organizational skills, time management skills, strong attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills and ability to professionally complete administrative tasks
11. Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments
12. Ability to work collectively with team members
13. Highly developed sense of integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction
14. Professional appearance 

Physical Work/Environment Requirements

1. Position is partially in a warehouse environment and may require the use of various types of tools and/or operation of heavy equipment (e.g. forklift, knives, etc.); position involves driving and will require prolonged periods of sitting
