Job Description - High School Math & Science Teacher

Job Title: High School Math and Science Teacher 

Work Calendar: 189 Work Days

Schedule: Full-time Licensed Monday–Friday

Compensation: $53,250 to 58,500, depending upon experience and qualifications

Under the general supervision of an assigned Director, the science/math teacher will develop students' skills and competence in foundational mathematical and science principles, develop students' essential skills in math and science, as well as assist in preparing students for assessments and life beyond school. As professional educators, RPA teachers are expected to immerse students in collaborative learning experiences, critical thinking skills, and evidence-based explorations with a personalized proficiency-based learning methodology. RPA teachers engage with students, families, and colleagues both in class and while attending school-wide events, including open enrollment, scheduling, graduation, and staff meetings. RPA teachers contribute to RPA's work culture by demonstrating RPA's vision, mission, and values

Approximately 55% of Time - Student Instruction

  • Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction and student learning. 
  • Manage student behavior in a way that reflects and supports RPA culture.
  • Develop math and science curriculum and activity-based instructional materials that challenge students and best utilize the available time for instruction. 
  • Personalize math and science learning activities that are engaging, focused on student interests, while developing essential skills.
  • Utilize proficiency-based assessment methodology and grading practices.
  • Use current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based on a wide variety of student learning styles..
  • Promote critical and creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas. 

Approximately 25% of Time - Planning, Scheduling, Grading, & Record Keeping

  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning and progress, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student needs.
  • Use computers and technology, and adopt school work systems, including Google Suite.
  • Attend student support meetings, including 504, IEP, data team, and others as assigned. 
  • Implement a proficiency grading system in alignment with RPA’s mission and values. 

Approximately 10% of Time - Student Supervision & Support

  • Implement academic and behavior interventions as needed to support student success. 
  • Support school culture and safety by fulfilling assigned campus supervision duties, including after-school and evening student activities and events.
  • Utilize highly developed interpersonal skills to build relationships with students and staff. 

Approximately 10% of Time - Contribute to RPA & Professional Development

  • Engage in staff, planning, student success, and student support meetings.
  • Work as part of a professional teaching team.
  • Self-evaluate and improve upon classroom outcomes and professional goals.
  • Build high-quality relationships with students and staff.
  • Participate in school promotional activities and student events that are outside of the regularly scheduled teaching hours.
  • Embrace and uphold the vision, mission, and values of RPA.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Math knowledge that includes at least Algebra knowledge. 
  • Science knowledge that could include any area of science specialty or multiple areas of science specialties.
  • Ability to successfully work as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. 
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. 
  • Ability to build high-quality relationships with students.

Certification/LicenseCurrent Oregon licensure in Math or Science (or ability to obtain licensure or official charter school registry license)Clean background check and fingerprinting
