Job Description

We are seeking an experienced First Robotics Competition (FRC) coach to lead our rookie high school team at Uncommon Camden Prep High School in Camden, NJ. As part of Uncommon’s commitment to preparing students for college and beyond, our competitive robotics program plays a key role in building skills, confidence and college readiness. 

 

Role Highlights: 

  • Lead a Project class (2x / week, 2 hours / session) focused on FRC. 
  • Coach after-school practices and weekend sessions, especially during build season (Jan-Apr). 
  • Guide students through the entire FRC season- from brainstorming to competition. 
  • Candidates who competed in FRC while in high school are preferred. The coaching role is part-time and will report to the Student Talent Manager.

 

Responsibilities: 

Preparation and General Practice Time 

  • Up to 2 hours/week preparing for projects, competitions, and practices. 
  • Fall Semester (October- December) 
    • 4 hours/week total 
    • After-school practices on Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1 hour each day. 
  • Build Season (January- April) 
    • 8 hours/ week total. 
    • Continued after-school practices on Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1 hour each day. 
    • Additional 6+hours/week outside of school for competition prep (days flexible based on school schedule). 
  • Spring Semester (April- June) 
    • 2 hours/week total. 
    • Wrap up season: inventory, order materials, prep student leaders, and recruit new members. 

Competitions: 2-3 weekends per school year 

  • Register for and participate in an off-season competition.
  • Register for and participate in at least one regional/district competition.

Team Commitment & Family Communication 

  • Student Talent Managers and coaches select team members based on after-school availability. 
  • Commitment is confirmed via a signed parent permission form. 
  • Partner with Student Talent Manager to set up a Remind app communication protocol. 
  • Use Remind to keep families informed about practices, competitions, and other out-of-school club related activities.

Compensation

Coaches will receive an annual stipend of $5,000-$7,000 based on experience and contracted hours per week, paid semi-monthly.

If at any point during the year, you stop performing these responsibilities before they are fully completed, for any reason, your stipend will be adjusted in accordance.
