History:
Martin County Hospital District (MCHD) was organized in 1967 and has boundaries coterminous with Martin County, Texas. It is located in the heart of West Texas. Opened in 1949, the hospital was originally located near downtown Stanton. This facility served the community well for many years but was replaced with a state of the art 18 bed facility in 2012. The new facility is located on I20 and has been designated as a Critical Access Hospital.
Summary of Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for working with patient and other requestors including but not limited to insurance representatives, attorneys, researchers for paper and electronic health record access in order to schedule an appointment for viewing or processing the release – ensuring minimum necessary regulations are applied. This position is responsible for ensuring all aspects of ROI are completed accurately and within required timeframes. This position requires a considerable amount of knowledge of the documentation present in the MCHD health record, as well as state and federal statues, the MCHD policies pertaining to privacy and security of Protected Health Information (PHI) and the MCHD policies pertaining to ROI. This is needed in order to ensure that accurate information is available and released when required. It also requires significant communication with, and guidance for, patients, family members, hospital team members, medical staff and external sources in terms of ROI functions and requirements. This position includes the task of scanning paper documents into the appropriate medical record chart.
Requirements
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate degree preferred.
Licenses/Certificates:
Registered Health Information Technician or higher credential preferred.
Experience:
One (1) year experience in Health Information Management Department preferred. Knowledge of Release of Information and HIPAA preferred.
