Histology Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Histology Assistant plays a crucial role in the preparation and processing of tissue specimens for histological examination. This position involves supporting the histology team with various tasks to ensure efficient laboratory operations and the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in receiving and accessioning surgical specimens.
• Prepare tissue samples for processing, including fixation, dehydration, and embedding.
• Cut and mount tissue sections onto slides for microscopic examination.
• Perform routine and special staining procedures as directed.
• Maintain grossing logs and ensure accurate labeling and organization of specimens.
• Prepare necessary reagents and media for histology procedures.
• Support the Histotechnologists with quality control and assurance processes.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory workspace.
• Conduct routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and assist with troubleshooting.
• Adhere to all relevant safety protocols and quality standards.
• Perform other duties as needed to ensure efficient laboratory operations.
• Treats staff, physicians, visitors, and patients with dignity and respect.
• Participates in special projects and training as necessary.

• High School Diploma or equivalent; certification in Histotechnology is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of histology procedures and laboratory techniques.
• Previous experience in a laboratory setting is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Effective communication skills.
