Job Description - Home Care Medical Office Specialist





JOB SUMMARY


Responsible for daily operations of office functions including but not limited to: registration, payroll responsibilities, training and orienting new staff, insurance verification, collection of payments, screens and directs telephone calls, maintains contract information, obtains and submits data to state and federal agencies. Serves as a resource person for Electronic Health Record.










Job Requirements






Minimum Education



  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Associate or Bachelors degree in business or related field is preferred.


Minimum Work Experience



  • Two years of experience is required if equivalent training has not been received.

  • Previous healthcare experience preferred


Required Skills



  • Excellent customer skills. Must have a working knowledge of HCPCS codes.

  • Computer skills as well as the ability to type with accurate spelling, grammar and punctuation is required.

  • Having the ability to speak clearly and concisely with patients and providers is crucial.

  • Must be able to perform duties and maintain personal conduct, attitude and appearance that conform to policies and procedures of the facility.

  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective and professional relationships with patients, medical staff, clerical staff and the public will be essential.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Essential Functions



  • Accurately obtains and enters patient information.

  • Assumes responsibility of payroll and human resources materials.

  • Files mandatory applications for current registration with all regulatory agencies and insurance payers.

  • Professionally responds to phone inquiries from reimbursement sources and patients

  • Compiles and submits data to reporting regulatory agencies.

  • Monitors and submits accounts for bad debt collection.

  • Responds to and investigates inquiries for refunds of payments by insurance companies.

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of HCPCS codes.

  • Compiles visit and encounter information for productivity reporting.

  • Enters census information daily for hospice.

  • Verifies invoices from nursing home for hospice room and board.

  • Monitors, develops and maintains processes for billing as regulatory changes are made.

  • Download Medicare and Medicaid remittances for processing electronically.

  • Back up provided for all authorizations for home health, home medical equipment, and hospice

  • Back up provided for deposits and taking payments from patients.

  • Able to work with minimum supervision.

  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as accept direction on given assignments.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates exceptional interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills.

  • Demonstrates Leadership ability.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of Electronic Medical Record. Trains and serves as a resource person to staff.

  • Floats to other areas as requested and responds to assignment with positive attitude.

  • Participates in staff meetings.

  • Maintains patient confidentiality.

  • Knowledge of HIPAA awareness and compliance with emphasis on respect of the patients’ right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.

  • Maintains annual Employee Health screening requirements as required by policy.
