Position Summary:
The Hose Prep and Strip Operator is responsible for preparing rubber hoses for the next stages in the manufacturing process by stripping outer layers, trimming ends, and performing necessary cleaning or surface preparation. This role ensures all hoses are prepped accurately according to job specifications, customer requirements, and production standards. The Operator works closely with the production and assembly teams to support efficient workflow and maintain quality standards.
Schedule:
- 5:00am - 3:30PM, Monday through Thursday (Friday Off)
Key Responsibilities:
- Strip hose ends or layers using handheld tools, stripping equipment, or machines per job specifications.
- Trim hoses to designated lengths and tolerances as outlined in work orders.
- Inspect hoses for surface defects or contamination during the prep process.
- Clean hose surfaces and apply primers, bonding agents, or other materials as needed.
- Verify identification markings and ensure correct hose type, batch, and length.
- Label and organize prepped hoses for staging or transfer to the next production area.
- Operate stripping or prep-related machinery and ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness.
- Accurately document work performed, materials used, and any discrepancies noted.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with safety and 5S standards.
- Assist with other duties in the production or finishing departments as needed.
- Report damaged materials, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns to the supervisor immediately.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 1+ year of experience in a manufacturing or production environment preferred.
- Experience using hand tools, trimming equipment, or hose/flexible material handling is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and product specifications.
- Comfortable using tools such as knives, cutters, rotary blades, and stripping equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and focus on quality and consistency.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Good manual dexterity and physical stamina – able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Willingness to learn, follow instructions, and work as part of a team.
- Familiarity with safety procedures, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout practices.
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing setting with exposure to rubber materials, noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
- Requires standing, bending, lifting, and working with hand tools for long periods.
- PPE (gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection) must be worn in designated areas.
