Hospice Consultant Nurse (RN) – Per Diem



Duties and Responsibilities
Hospice Consultant Nurses provide clinical support, education, and mentorship to hospice
nursing staff to promote high-quality, compliant, and compassionate end-of-life care:



• Assist hospice staff nurses with the completion of hospice visits, including admissions,
recertifications, routine visits, and complex patient situations as needed.



• Provide hands-on teaching and guidance related to the HOPE assessment, including
accurate completion, clinical reasoning, and documentation best practices.



• Educate and reinforce the hospice philosophy of care, including comfort-focused
treatment, symptom management, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient- and
family-centered decision making.



• Support staff nurses with clinical assessments, care planning, and problem-solving for
patients with complex symptom management needs.



• Promote regulatory compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation and hospice
documentation standards.



• Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to hospice nursing staff, fostering confidence,
consistency, and quality improvement.



• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary hospice team, including physicians, nurse
practitioners, social workers, chaplains, aides, and leadership.



• Model best practices in communication with patients, families, and caregivers regarding
goals of care and end-of-life education.



• Provide feedback and recommendations to hospice leadership regarding staff education
needs, trends, and opportunities for improvement.



Requirements:
• This is a per diem position and is not eligible for benefits.
• Internet-capable computer, smart phone, and/or tablet (iPad/Android) for accessing and
working within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• All applicants will be required to submit a background check authorization with the
Massachusetts Criminal Offender Information Registry (CORI).


• All applicants will be checked against the Office of the Inspector General (OIG)

including those produced by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA).



• A valid, unrestricted Massachusetts driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Valid, unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Massachusetts.
• Previous hospice nursing experience required; experience with hospice admissions,
recertifications, and regulatory documentation strongly preferred.
