As the Staff Development Coordinator, you are a member of the training and orientation team that is responsible for development of new and current clinical team members. Your guidance will directly shape the experience of our patients by educating the team that serves them. The job of a hospice nurse demands strength, empathy, and an unwavering commitment to doing what’s right, even when it’s hard. This role will provide the mentorship, inspiration and accountability to the team as they learn current and new processes that will allow them to be successful in meeting the demands of their role. 

The function of this role will require the Staff Development Coordinator to work in-office and in the field, training nurses and aides.  This is a full-time position with expectations of working Monday - Friday. 8:00am-5:00pm.  This is not a management position and has no direct reports.

Candidate must meet the following qualifications and experience to be considered:

  • Graduate of an approved school of professional nursing and currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Georgia.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a clinical setting, with at least 2 years in direct hospice.
  • Experience in hospice staff development or education.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Certification in hospice and palliative care preferred.

To be successful in this role candidates must possess the following skills:

  • Proven expertise as skilled hospice nurse
  • Proficient in use of electronic medical records 
  • Knowledge of nursing care processes and medication guidelines
  • Strong nursing assessment skills
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, ensuring that communication is tailored to the person being addressed
  • Punctual, reliable and flexible
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Personal integrity
  • Demonstrates evidence of on-going personal development and the application of this to the hospice clinical team
  • Excellent presentation skills

Requirements

 Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Understands and adheres to established Capstone Hospice policies and procedures
  • Act as a role model for excellence, empowering others through education and support.
  • Design and deliver clinical education programs
  • Coordination and facilitation of training for new staff:
  • Provide training on EMR
  • Provide education on clinical processes
  • Provide education on documentation expectations and compliance
  • Provides education regarding clinical case management
  • Assist clinical managers in providing support for performance improvement related to audit findings and observations in clinical settings.
  • Provide support and continuous professional development activities for staff
  • Planning, coordinating, and delivering education programs for professionals providing end-of-life care
  • Manage time to ensure balance between clinical and administrative activities is maintained
  • Build and nurture effective working relations with colleagues across the hospice.
  • Other projects assigned

Work Environment

Office based with field visits. While in the field training, must have the ability to tolerate exposure to elements, including, but not limited to, odors, body fluids, excrements, adverse environmental conditions and hazardous materials.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work for extended periods while sitting or standing and being involved in physical activity. Moderate to heavy lifting, at times assisting patients in the field while training. Ability to do extensive bending, lifting and standing on a regular basis. Must possess a sense of sight/ hearing or use appropriate adaptive devices that will enable senses to function at a level required to meet the essential duties of the position.

Mental Requirements

Must be able to work independently, make judgements based on assessments and data available and act accordingly. Must be flexible, innovative and possess good interpersonal skills. Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress and demonstrate emotional stability.
