Description

The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist - Informatics is responsible for demonstrating proficiency in all pharmacist functions, such as interpreting, transcribing, or verifying medication orders. Attend and actively participate in daily multidisciplinary and bedside rounds, complete drug utilization reviews to promote rational drug therapy, lead and develop clinical services, and mentor and educate staff to ensure accurate and appropriate documentation of clinical activities as needed.



Responsibilities

EHR and Pharmacy System Management

  • Build, maintain, and optimize medication records within the EHR.
  • Configure medication order sets, formulary data, and clinical workflows.
  • Support pharmacy information systems, computerized provider order entry (CPOE), barcode medication administration (BCMA), and automated dispensing cabinets.

Clinical Decision Support

  • Develop and maintain alerts, reminders, dosing guidance, and drug interaction rules.
  • Ensure clinical decision support tools promote safe and evidence-based medication use.
  • Reduce medication errors and improve patient outcomes through optimized system design.

Medication Safety and Quality Improvement

  • Analyze medication-use processes to identify safety risks.
  • Investigate medication-related technology issues and recommend improvements.
  • Participate in quality, regulatory, and patient safety initiatives.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Extract and analyze pharmacy and clinical data.
  • Create reports and dashboards for leadership, quality improvement, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor medication utilization, clinical outcomes, and operational performance metrics.
     

Project Management

  • Lead implementation, testing, upgrades, and optimization of pharmacy technologies.
  • Coordinate system conversions, software updates, and workflow redesign projects.
  • Work with vendors and IT teams during system deployments.
     

Clinical and Technical Liaison

  • Serve as the bridge between pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and IT personnel.
  • Gather user requirements and translate clinical needs into technical solutions.
  • Provide recommendations on system enhancements and workflow improvements.
     

Training and User Support

  • Educate clinicians on pharmacy technology tools and workflows.
  • Develop training materials and conduct end-user training sessions.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and provide ongoing support.

Compliance and Governance

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, privacy, and security requirements.
  • Maintain data integrity and support audit activities.
  • Participate in policy development related to medication-use technology


Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills; in order to provide service to patients, caregivers, and peers in a reliable, responsive, safe, and courteous manner.
  • Organization and problem solving skills with the ability to work in situations involving uncertainty and rapid change; deal constructively with mistakes and/or setbacks; demonstrate flexibility.
  • Ability to align all patient care activities and project work with departmental and institutional policies, business model/needs, goals, and vision.
  • Provides service to patients, caregivers, and each other in a reliable, responsive, safe, and courteous manner; promote inclusiveness and collegiality by demonstrating respect and professionalism to others at all times.
  • Knowledge of FDA health regulations, pharmacology and legal compliance requirements in order to provide accurate and timely medication education and counseling to patients and other healthcare professionals.
  • Thorough understanding of dosage administration and measurement, chemical compounds, medical brands, etc.

Education:

  • PharmD required

 

Certification/Licensure:

  • Texas License in Pharmacy or ability to obtain before start date
  • Board Certification preferred
