Hospitalist Physician

• Provide direct patient care approximately 95% of the time and complete administrative tasks approximately 5% of the time.
• Admit patients, including history and physical examinations.
• Evaluate and treat patients including the ordering and interpretation of diagnostic studies such as laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and electrocardiographic examinations, and the administration of medications.
• Discussion of end-of-life preferences/advanced care planning with patients.
• Consultations with sub-specialists and coordination of care with primary care physicians.
• Discharge patients including ensuring appropriate follow-up is arranged.
• Provide care to patients in critical/acute care settings in conformance with VA policies.
• Assess, stabilize, and determine the disposition of inpatients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services. This includes running code teams and rapid response teams.
• Perform procedures such as lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, paracentesis, etc.

• Education:
  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree required.
• Licensure & Certifications (Current & Unrestricted): 
  • Current/Active license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine.
  • Active BLS and ACLS certifications
• Experience: 
  • Two (2) years post residency experience required.
• Security & Background Check:
  • U.S. Citizenship and a successful background investigation are required. 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance. 
• Additional Requirements:
  • Willingness to comply with the government vaccination requirements.
