Description

The Host/Hostess serves as the first point of contact for guests at the Blue Heron Restaurant. This role is responsible for providing a warm and welcoming experience, managing reservations, coordinating take-out orders, seating guests, and supporting smooth dining room operations. The position requires professionalism, strong communication skills, and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Greet and welcome guests upon arrival in a friendly and professional manner

2. Assign tables and escort guests to their seats

3. Take reservations in-person and over the phone

4. Manage waitlists and communicate estimated wait times to guests

5. Provide menus and inform guests of any specials or promotions

6. Maintain a clean and organized host stand, lobby, and entryway

7. Support restaurant flow by coordinating with servers and kitchen staff

8. Assist with take-out orders as needed

9. Address guest inquiries and concerns with tact and professionalism

10. Thank guests upon departure and encourage return visits

Requirements

1. Excellent communication and customer service skills

2. Friendly, organized, and responsive demeanor

3. Ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure

4. Knowledge of fine dining service standards, a plus

5. Able to stand for 4–6 hours, work outdoors during deck service, and climb stairs

6. Must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays

7. Previous experience in hospitality or customer service preferred

8. Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

9. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, sit, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, and push/pull/lift items weighing 40 pounds or more. 

10. This role requires the ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, auditory focus, and visual attention.
