The House Supervisor reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Nursing House Supervisor performs the primary function of a professional nurse role model in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in the area of her specialization, taking into consideration the special needs and behaviors of the specific age of the unit population. The Nursing House Supervisor practice can be divided into four major role components: education, clinical practice, consultation, and research. The Nursing House Supervisor is an expert clinical practitioner in his/her area of expertise with expanded authority and autonomy, whose efforts are directed toward the improvement of patient care and nursing practice. The purpose of this position is to supervise and coordinate the activities of the organization and nursing personnel on the evening, night and weekend shifts to maintain the continuity of nursing care in collaboration with all of nursing leadership. This highly visible position should serve as a role model for patient care and service excellence utilizing the mission, vision, and core values of Palos Community Hospital. Participates in quality improvement initiatives through role modeling and creation of a supportive environment. Responsibilities of this position include collaborating with nursing staff and nursing leadership, managing staffing based on acuity, facilitating patient throughput, and demonstrating comprehensive and effective verbal and written communication to all personnel and all departments. The responsibilities are accomplished following the standard of nursing practice, utilizing hospital policy and procedure and involvement of hospital leadership as appropriate.
