Job Description - Household Manager & Family Assistant

Are you looking for a unique opportunity to support the founders of a growing and thriving e-commerce stationery brand (Hadley Designs) while also playing a key role in keeping their home and family life running smoothly? As a Household manager & Personal Assistant, you will be an essential part of both the business and family, ensuring that the household stays organized, efficient, and stress-free.

This role goes beyond cleaning and organization—you'll get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to run a successful e-commerce business while supporting a dynamic family. From maintaining a tidy home and managing daily tasks to occasionally caring for four children and handling transportation to activities, you will be the foundation that allows the founders to focus on growing their business.

What Success Looks Like

A successful Personal Assistant ensures the home is always clean, organized, and well-stocked while also providing reliable support in childcare and transportation. The home will be tidy, clutter-free, and stocked with necessary household items. School lunches will be packed, laundry will be consistently managed, and cleaning tasks will be completed daily. Vehicles will remain clean, and the dog will be well cared for. Special projects, such as seasonal planting, gift wrapping, or event prep, will be handled efficiently. The PA will also ensure children are safely supervised and transported to scheduled activities as needed.

Beyond that, success in this role means becoming a trusted part of the family and business, helping to create a seamless balance between work and home life. By keeping daily responsibilities running smoothly, you will be directly supporting the continued growth of an inspiring e-commerce brand.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Daily Cleaning & Organization
    • Empty shoe baskets.
    • Load/unload the dishwasher and take care of all dishes.
    • Wipe down kitchen and bathroom counters.
    • Vacuum downstairs and spot vacuum problem areas.
    • Clean and declutter the living room, kids' rooms, and bathrooms.
    • Make all beds.
    • Ensure the garage and back porch remain organized and clean.
  2. Restocking & Household Maintenance
    • Refill toilet paper, paper towels, water pitchers, and ice machine.
    • Keep the pantry and laundry room tidy.
    • Spot-check for stains on clothing and treat them.
  3. Pet & Vehicle Care
    • Ensure the dog’s water dish is always filled.
    • Bathe the dog monthly.
    • Empty and vacuum cars weekly.
    • Sweep the garage weekly.
  4. Childcare & Transportation
    • Supervise up to four children when parents are unavailable.
    • Prepare and serve snacks or meals for children.
    • Safely drive children to and from school, extracurricular activities, and playdates as needed.
    • Ensure children follow household routines and cleanup responsibilities.
  5. Miscellaneous Tasks (As Needed)
    • Handle meal prep.
    • Process Amazon returns.
    • Organize storage areas, including closets.
    • Wrap gifts and prepare for parties.
    • Replace air filters.
    • Assist with gardening tasks, including planting and weeding.
    • Monthly: Deep clean fridges and organize contents.
    • Assist with laundry.
    • Put away kids’ meals and handle expired food.
    • Take out the trash, roll bins to the curb, clean cars, and sweep the garage.

Role Requirements

  • Prior experience in household management, childcare, or personal assistance preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift and move household items as needed.
  • Comfortable working with children’s schedules and routines.
  • Trustworthy and able to respect privacy and confidentiality.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to maintain a consistent routine.
  • Availability for flexible scheduling based on household needs.
