GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

This position is part of the environmental services team. The Housekeeping Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, safe, and welcoming environment throughout CHC/SEK facilities. This position performs routine and specialized cleaning and disinfection of clinical, dental, pharmacy, laboratory, administrative, and common areas in accordance with policies, infection prevention practices, and applicable regulatory requirements.

The Housekeeping Technician plays an important role in infection prevention, patient and employee safety, and the overall patient experience by ensuring clinics and CHC buildings are maintained to cleanliness and sanitation expectations. This position works collaboratively with clinical and support departments and appropriately responds to environmental concerns, spills, and other housekeeping needs. May perform basic maintenance related duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Cleans and disinfects assigned patient care, clinical, dental, pharmacy, laboratory, administrative, and common areas according to established schedules, procedures, and infection prevention standards.
• Performs routine housekeeping duties, including dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, cleaning restrooms, washing interior and exterior glass, and maintaining floors and other assigned areas.
• Cleans and disinfects high-touch surfaces and patient care areas using appropriate products, procedures, contact times, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to reduce the risk of infection and cross-contamination.
• Collects, handles, transports, and disposes of general waste, regulated medical waste, sharps containers, and other waste materials as assigned and in accordance with procedures and applicable safety requirements.
• Responds appropriately to spills, including blood and other potentially infectious materials, using established exposure control procedures, appropriate PPE, and approved cleaning and disinfecting products.
• Restocks housekeeping supplies and designated facility supplies, including restroom products, hand hygiene products, and other assigned materials; monitors inventory and communicates supply needs in a timely manner.
• Safely operates and maintain housekeeping equipment and properly uses, labels, stores, and handles cleaning chemicals in accordance with manufacturer instructions, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and CHC/SEK procedures.
• Identifies and promptly reports unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, maintenance concerns, pest activity, infection prevention concerns, or other facility issues to the appropriate supervisor or department.
• Appropriately uses signage related to cleaning procedures to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and employees (i.e. wet floor signs).
• Maintains housekeeping closets, carts, equipment, and supply areas in a clean, organized, and secure manner and performs other duties as assigned to support a safe, clean, and professional healthcare environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
• Experience in housekeeping, custodial, environmental services, or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license, as travel is required. Must maintain driving standards- no more than 2 minor or 1 major driving violations within a 3-year lookback period.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk, talk and hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the position includes distance vision and depth perception.
