Position Specific Summary
The Housing Specialist I position at the City of Tucson’s Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) is responsible for providing customer service, processing paperwork, maintaining files, and providing administrative support to landlord or inspection teams. Employees in this classification will assist customers in person, over the phone, and through e-mail.
Work is performed under the supervision of a Housing supervisor. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
Explains the general aspects of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) housing programs to the public. Interprets and applies housing program regulations. Maintains applicant and program participant files. Contacts and notifies applicants and participants regarding eligibility and status of applications. Provides courteous, customer service to members of the public by telephone and electronic communication. Manages phone calls and check-in at the front desk. Triages clients when concerns are escalated. Opens and closes the office and ensures lobby remains safe and hygienic for all visitors and employees.
Receives packages and mail from carriers. Remains diligent about the safety of all that are present in the lobby and courtyard areas. Schedules and assists professional housing members with group presentations to prospective tenants and landlords. Assists with distribution of materials such as supplies, etc.
Processes and files documents that have been submitted to the PHA. Scans incoming documents into client profiles using the assigned housing Software system. Organizes caseloads to ensure necessary records and documents are processed and updated within specified time Conducts rent reasonable searches (affordability comparable). Retrieves, compiles, and summarizes program statistics to prepare reports. Inputs and retrieves data from electronic information system equipment.
Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Work conditions as follows
Mostly office environment.
