Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is seeking a Housing Support Specialist to support individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness in housing and community-based settings. This role helps clients build the skills needed to maintain stable housing and increase independence over time. The work is hands-on and relationship-based, with a focus on practical support and long-term success in the community. Primary Responsibilities:

• Work with clients in KMHS housing, those seeking placement, and those already housed in the community.
• Collaborate in implementing agency treatment philosophy, program goals, and therapeutic housing standards.
• Build positive relationships with clients and create a supportive environment that fosters independence.
• Conduct FCS assessments and recertifications; develop person-centered goals and provide education, training, coaching, and advocacy.
• Learn and implement the Permanent Supportive Housing Fidelity (PSH) model.
• Support skill-building in cooking, cleaning, money management, social interaction, and other recovery skills.
• Provide individualized structure, including scheduling tasks, group shopping trips, or one-on-one support.
• Encourage the development and achievement of housing-related goals.
• Maintain contact with the Crisis Response Team, housing team, and clinical team; report observations on client status, risks, or stability.
• Identify and intervene early when behaviors may jeopardize housing.
• Respond appropriately when clients are missing, ill, injured, or psychiatrically unstable.
• Document incidents, unusual events, and services provided per agency policy.
• Contribute to transitional planning for clients moving toward more independent living.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in psychology, social services, or behavioral health field. High school diploma or GED accepted with four years of property management and housing experience.

EXPERIENCE: Entry level with BA Degree (no prior related work experience )or 4 years of relevant experience with GED.

This position requires driving clients in a personal vehicle on behalf of the agency. Incumbent must meet all agency driving requirements, including being at least 21 years old, having been licensed for a minimum of three years, successfully completing a motor vehicle history check, possessing and maintaining a current, valid driver’s license in the state of Washington, and having reliable, insured transportation.

LICENSURE: Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration.

Preferred Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE: Experience in co-occurring disorders treatment, individual and group therapy, vocational services, or substance abuse treatment.

• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public.

• Ability to operate a personal computer, fax machine, printer, and copier proficiently.

• ABILITIES:
• Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed productivity standards. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team member.
• Able to assist in building positive working relationships with staff of all agency departments.

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc. Operation of a motor vehicle.

Work Environment: Office, outreach.

Mental/Physical Requirements: While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee is required to:

•                      Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.

•                      Ascend and descend stairs and navigate indoor and outdoor environments safely.

•                   Lift, carry, push, and pull: Up to 10 pounds (frequently)
•                   Up to 20 pounds (occasionally)
•                   Up to 50 pounds (seldom)

• Safely participate in crisis intervention, including implementation of approved de-escalation techniques, in accordance with training and organizational policy.
  • Move quickly and respond to emergencies, including rapid repositioning or short-distance movement to maintain safety and physically evade attempts at assault.
  • Use hands and arms for reaching, handling, and manipulation, including reaching above shoulder level.
  • Have visual acuity sufficient to read written materials and observe surroundings. Peripheral vision to monitor clients and the environment.
  • Have hearing sufficient to communicate effectively and detect environmental and behavioral cues.
  • Meet and maintain physical requirements demonstrated through agency-mandated training, including demonstration of ability to: maintain balance, twist torso, forward bend, pivot, sidestep, forward and backward step, crouch, move to secure limb, knee touch to ground, kneel, get up from floor sitting or kneeling position.
