DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Senior Shared Services Specialist will work collaboratively within the Human Resources Client Relations Division as a Business Partner and point of contact to provide superior Human Resources services to the Houston Fire Department. This position performs professional Human Resources work within the client area of the Houston Fire Department (HFD) related to Classified and Municipal.

The candidate selected for the position will be responsible for the following:

+ Prepares and processes various Classified and Municipal Personnel Actions through the City of Houston's HROne SuccessFactors - Employee Central (EC) system by initiating, monitoring, and ensuring a successful upload.

+ Performs as Coordinator when needed to assist employees with inquiries regarding Retirement/Separation activities to ensure compliance.

+ Compiles various Attrition, Separation, and Tracking reports while ensuring compliance with COH policies and Texas Local Government Code Chapter 143.

+ Serves as the department Drug Test Coordinator and monitors the Alere Datalink system.

+ Assists with the development and revision of policies, procedures, and special projects.

+ May perform other duties as assigned essential to the efficient operation of the team and participate on special projects, as needed.

+ Assist with on-boarding and offboarding activities.

+ Administers Random Drug Testing, as well as departmental personnel and medical records administration.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Science, Liberal Arts or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Three years of related professional experience in human resources are required.

Pertinent experience at the professional level may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERENCES

The preferred candidate for the Human Resources Department must demonstrate leadership potential, be customer focused, and possess excellent problem solving, organizational, communication and people skills. Strong presentation skills and knowledge of Microsoft office as well as SAP is preferred.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
