On the Human Health and Performance Contract we are at the forefront of safeguarding astronaut health, ensuring human performance, and advancing technologies for human space exploration. We are seeking an Human Factors Design Engineer at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX.
In this role, you will be a critical member of the Anthropometry and Biomechanics Facility (ABF) in the Anthropometry, Injury Biomechanics and Ergonomics Lab (AIBEL) in the Biomedical Research and Environmental Sciences Division at NASA Johnson Space Center. The ABF performs anthropometric, biomechanical, ergonomic, and human factors evaluations of ground and flight equipment and procedures, including evaluation of current and future space suit designs. The ABF utilizes motion analysis systems, force sensing devices, anthropometric measuring devices, and computer modeling/analysis to ensure that all astronauts have hardware that is safe and accommodates them appropriately.
AIBEL works with vehicle, habitat and suit designers across multiple NASA Programs, including the EVA and Human Surface Mobility Program, Commercial Crew Program, International Space Station, Gateway, Human Landing System and Orion. Your work will be cross-disciplinary, interfacing with scientists, engineers, hardware designers and physiologists across the NASA and vendor communities.

You use your experience and judgment to work with scientists and engineers in the ABF to complete operational evaluations and analyses. Tasks will include study design, data collection, data reduction and analysis, and preparation of technical reports and presentations. Where needed, you provide quick responses to tough Programmatic questions based on careful interpretation of data, ensuring that NASA can make the safest, data-backed decisions related to ongoing missions. You comply with the HHPC-2 Contract’s Safety, Health and Environmental Plan, Quality Plan, and all safety policies and procedures, and complete all assigned training.
