Job Description - Human Resource Generalist

Poeppelman Materials is a fifth generation, family-owned construction materials business. Our portfolio of businesses include crushed limestone production, sand and gravel production, ready-mix concrete supplier, and custom precast concrete fabricator. We specialize in providing building materials to the greater Dayton market, including Miami, Shelby, Auglaize, Mercer, Montgomery, Preble, and Randolph counties. PEPCON, our ready-mix division, is strategically located in Bradford, Versailles, Union City, and Brookville, to provide our customers with just-in-time building materials. Our precast division is located in West Milton, OH, and provides custom precast concrete solutions.



The Human Resource Generalist is proactive and detail-oriented; supporting the day-to-day operations of our HR department. The ideal candidate will handle a wide range of responsibilities including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, and compliance with employment laws.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Administer and coordinate recruitment processes including job postings, resume screening, interviewing, and background checks.

  • Support new hire onboarding and orientation programs.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, files, and HRIS data.

  • Assist in developing and updating job descriptions, HR policies, and employee handbooks.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

  • Support training and development initiatives.

  • Participate in employee engagement and retention strategies.

  • Assist with offboarding procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned



Qualifications:



  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.

  • 2+ Years of experience in a Human Resource Generalist role.

  • 2+ Years experience in a small or mid-sized business environment.

  • Knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity.

  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent HR certification.

  • Proficient with Google Suite and HRIS systems (Bamboo HR a plus)



Physical Requirements:



  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer (typically 6–8 hours per day).

  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.

  • Manual dexterity for using a keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment.

  • Visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens.

  • Speaking/hearing abilities sufficient to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and in meetings.

  • Occasional walking, standing, bending and reaching.

  • Ability to travel occasionally for recruitment events, training, or other company-related activities.



Hours:  Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm
