Human Resources Manager
Overview
The Human Resources Manager works as a business partner to support assigned client groups in the development of human capital plans and strategy. Responsible for providing a full range of Human Resources leadership by actively driving initiatives, identifying key HR opportunities, and developing action plan to support business objectives.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
The Human Resources Manager’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide strategic and operational day-to-day human resource leadership, to include offering sound and creative solutions relative to business challenges such as talent and resource needs/retention, managerial development and competencies, and decision making to ensure compliance with local, state and federal employment legislation;
Ensure consistent application of HR programs, policies and practices across assigned region, to include compensation and benefits, performance management, and employee development;
Consult with employees and managers to address employee relations trends and root causes of work-related problems and issues, attempting to resolve employee relations issues with a consistent, systematic approach. Conduct investigations into areas of misconduct or policy violations; recommend and monitor resulting follow up actions;
Collaborate to address workforce planning to ensure that staffing plans achieve and maintain diverse staff representation;
Engage in all union labor issues at sites and work closely with resources to resolve bargaining unit employee issues, grievances, arbitrations, etc.;
Coordinate performance management activities for the business such as annual performance appraisal, annual bonus & merit increase processes, staffing, learning and development, compliance and employee/labor relations;
Assist business managers in addressing employee performance issues and providing consultative support as required;
Investigate employee relations issues and partner with Senior Management & Legal (when necessary) to resolve;
Engage business managers in actively managing and developing future talent; aid in succession planning activities;
Engage in communications with other HR team members around best practices and identify opportunities to create consistency and efficiencies where appropriate;
Lead assigned projects to include policy and process development;
Conduct new employee orientation and various trainings, including management development training in HR related areas as needed;
Conduct due diligence with regard to staff restructuring and reviewing requests for staffing changes and terminations;
Act as liaison for skills training and career development;
Promote communication between managers and employees;
Suggest various approaches to solving people-management problems;
Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships within cross-functional work teams (i.e. HR Admin, Payroll, Training, to ensure a coordinated and cohesive work effort and consistent approach to managing policies and procedures;
Leverage and liaise with Safety department to ensure alignment of initiatives and priorities;
Ensure compliance to federal, state and local employment legislation;
Provide, as needed, hands-on support to employees and managers to better understand and utilize HR tools, processes and policies;
Perform other duties and projects as assigned;
Take reasonable care for the safety and health of yourself and others; report workplace hazards, injuries, or illness immediately.
Required Experience
Undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience that provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work;
Five (5) or more years of related experience in a generalist/business partner role to include the interpretation and application of a variety of HR disciplines (i.e., hands-on employee relations, policy interpretation, HR administration, performance management, and HRIS data organization, analysis, and reporting);
Experience supporting a multi-site workforce required.
Preferred Experience
Experience supporting a workforce based in California strongly preferred.
Prior experience in labor and union relations preferred.
Prior experience in distribution, manufacturing or other related industry.

Outstanding verbal/written communication skills and ability to provide high level support;
Ability to partner, influence and work effectively with management and to positively interact with employees at all levels in the organization;
Strong PC skills with knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Power Point and Word and ability to learn company specific software;
Ability to understand and comply with company's guidelines & expectations, to include Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest guidelines.
Valid Driver’s license with the ability to meet the company vehicle policy and the ability to travel as needed;
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office environment.
May require prolonged periods of sitting/standing
May require up to 25% travel within assigned regions
