Human Resources Manager

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading and managing all Human Resources functions for a manufacturing facility. This position serves as the company's primary HR resource overseeing the entire employee lifecycle from recruitment through separation while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws.

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for talent acquisition, employee relations, payroll, benefits administration, performance management, training and development, workers' compensation, leave administration, policy development, compliance, and organizational initiatives that support business objectives. This role requires a highly organized, hands-on HR professional who can balance strategic planning with day to day operational responsibilities.

Essential Duties & Respondibilities:

• Serve as the primary Human Resources contact for all employees and managers.
• Partner with company leadership to develop and execute HR strategies that support organizational goals.
• Advise managers on employee relations, coaching, performance management, conflict resolution, corrective action, investigations, and employment decisions.
• Foster a positive workplace culture focused on employee engagement, accountability, communication, and retention.
• Maintain confidentiality while exercising sound judgment in handling sensitive employee matters.

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

• Lead the full-cycle recruitment process for all positions, including sourcing, interviewing, selection, hiring, background checks, drug screenings, and onboarding.
• Develop recruiting strategies to attract qualified candidates for manufacturing, maintenance, technical, and professional positions.
• Maintain relationships with staffing agencies, technical schools, colleges, and community organizations.
• Coordinate new hire orientation and onboarding to ensure successful employee integration.
• Maintain job descriptions and ensure positions accurately reflect organizational needs.

Employee Relations & Performance Management

• Investigate employee complaints, workplace concerns, harassment allegations, policy violations, and other employee relations matters.
• Provide coaching and guidance to supervisors regarding employee performance and disciplinary actions.
• Administer progressive discipline and termination processes in accordance with company policies and applicable employment laws.
• Coordinate employee performance evaluations and assist managers with goal setting and development planning.
• Promote employee engagement through recognition programs, communication initiatives, and employee events.

Payroll Administration

• Process and manage bi-weekly payroll accurately and timely.
• Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with wage and hour laws.
• Process new hires, terminations, pay changes, promotions, garnishments, deductions, and timekeeping adjustments.
• Reconcile payroll reports and respond to employee payroll inquiries.

Benefit Administration

• Administer employee benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, retirement plans, COBRA, and other company-sponsored benefits.
• Manage annual Open Enrollment and employee benefit education.
• Coordinate enrollment, qualifying life events, and benefit changes with insurance carriers and brokers.
• Assist employees with benefit questions and claim issues.
• Analyze benefit offerings and recommend enhancements to remain competitive.

Leave Administration

• Administer Family and Medical Leave (FMLA), ADA accommodations, military leave, bereavement leave, jury duty, and other protected leaves.
• Coordinate return-to-work programs and reasonable accommodations.
• Maintain confidential medical documentation and ensure regulatory compliance.

Policies & HR Administration

• Develop, implement, and maintain company policies, procedures, and employee handbook.
• Maintain accurate employee files and HRIS records.
• Ensure organizational charts, employee records, compensation data, and employment documentation remain current.
• Oversee HR document retention and recordkeeping practices.
• Recommend process improvements to increase HR efficiency and effectiveness.

Training & Organizational Development

• Coordinate new hire orientation and compliance training.
• Develop leadership and supervisory training programs.
• Identify employee development opportunities and recommend training initiatives.
• Support succession planning and workforce development efforts.
• Coordinate mandatory compliance training.

Additional Responsibilities

• Coordinate employee recognition programs and company events.
• Assist with annual budgeting related to payroll and benefits.
• Maintain positive relationships with vendors, benefit providers, staffing agencies, and regulatory agencies.
• Stay informed on employment law updates and HR best practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of federal and North Carolina employment laws.
• Strong employee relations and conflict resolution skills.
• Excellent interviewing and recruiting abilities.
• Experience conducting workplace investigations.
• Strong payroll and benefits administration knowledge.
• Ability to build credibility and trust with employees at all levels.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Experience with HRIS systems; Paylocity experience preferred.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of five years of progressive Human Resources experience.
• Experience supporting a manufacturing or industrial environment strongly preferred.
• Experience independently managing all HR functions.
• Payroll processing experience required.
• Benefits administration experience required.
• Experience with workers' compensation and leave administration required.
• SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification strongly preferred.
