Heirloom Property Management is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to lead our HR function and serve as a member of the company’s leadership team, residing in onsite at our Duluth MN Office. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys building and improving people processes, partnering closely with leaders and managers, and moving important work forward in a fast-moving environment.
Initially, this person will take direct ownership of recruiting and HR operations while developing a strong understanding of our business, workforce needs, and operational challenges. Key early priorities include implementing our HRIS, strengthening recruiting and interviewing practices, improving performance management, evaluating retention, and building consistent HR processes that support employees, managers, and continued company growth.
As the HR function grows, the Human Resources Manager will hire and lead a dedicated recruiter while continuing to oversee recruiting strategy and directly lead searches for management and other key positions.
Core Responsibilities
Serve as a member of the leadership team and help shape practical HR strategies that support company goals, workforce needs, and operational priorities
Build strong working relationships across the organization and partner with leaders and managers on recruiting, performance management, employee relations, retention, and people-process improvements
Initially serve as the lead recruiter for the organization, developing consistent recruiting, interviewing, and selection processes while directly leading searches for management, professional, specialized, and other key roles
Coach operations managers on interviewing, candidate selection, performance management, employee development, and difficult conversations
Lead implementation and adoption of the company’s HRIS, including workflows for onboarding, employee records, performance management, benefits, and reporting
Evaluate existing HR processes and identify opportunities to simplify, improve, and strengthen consistency across the employee lifecycle
Establish and monitor recruiting, retention, turnover, and employee feedback metrics, using data to identify trends and recommend practical improvements
Oversee onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, FMLA, disability, workplace injuries, workers’ compensation, and other core HR operations
Maintain appropriate employee documentation, support HR compliance, and partner with leadership to review and improve HR policies, compensation practices, and employee programs
Hire, onboard, and lead a dedicated recruiter as the HR function grows, while continuing to oversee recruiting strategy and key searches
Required Skills & Abilities
Ability to build trust quickly and develop strong working relationships with employees, managers, leadership, and external partners
Comfort balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution across a wide range of HR responsibilities
Strong judgment when navigating sensitive employee matters and knowing when to escalate complex issues
Clear written and verbal communication skills for coaching, policy communication, recruiting, and leadership partnership
Ability to keep multiple priorities moving in a fast-paced environment with shifting needs and timelines
Practical, people-centered approach to improving processes, supporting managers, and solving problems
Confidence using HR data, employee feedback, and operational context to identify trends and recommend action
Other Requirements
5+ years of progressive HR experience in an HR Manager, HR Business Partner, Senior HR Generalist, or similar role
Strong recruiting experience across multiple levels of an organization
Demonstrated experience building and implementing HR processes and strategies
Experience coaching managers on interviewing, performance management, and employee relations
Experience implementing or significantly improving an HRIS strongly preferred
Experience managing or developing HR or recruiting staff preferred
SHRM or HRCI certification preferred but not required
Full-Time | Duluth, MN | $80,000–$120,000 DOE
