• Develop new hoses and hose assemblies to meet customer requirements. Use appropriate design tools including customer specifications, industry standards, principles of hose design, Power Steering project planning, FEA, DOEX, FMEA and APQP.
• Improve existing hose and hose assembly designs to reduce cost.
• Promote innovation in the Development/Marketing team
• Provide technical support to customers, commercial team and production.
• Design experimental prototype hose and fittings for testing and validation.
• Use appropriate systems which include: engineering change requests, temporary notices, SAP production specifications, QSI quality system, Sales Force document control, WIN SPC, SAP shopping carts and SAP queries.
• Collaborate with vendors to create new materials with improved performance or lower cost.
• Estimate factory costs for new or revised products.
• Evaluate customer returns along with QA to determine root cause and implement corrective action.
• Assist QA to disposition materials on hold in the factory and warehouse.
• Maintain periodic and lot release test specifications.
• Maintain a working knowledge of current industry standards such as SAE, ISO, DIN etc..
• Maintain working knowledge of compound polymer options and performance characteristics.
• Understand all wire and textile reinforcement options and specifications.
• Understand all lab test procedures. Perform lab tests on prototypes as needed.
• Maintain a working knowledge of all production processes.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical or Mechanical engineering
2+ years in Product Development
Good oral and written communication skills
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to work with/in a manufacturing environment
