Ayres’ River Engineering and Water Resources group is seeking a licensed professional engineer with a proven track record of successfully executing hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analysis projects. This position requires an entrepreneurial mindset to support our growing national practice in dam safety studies, inflow design flood studies, channel / spillway capacity evaluations, and dam rehabilitation projects. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in completing hydrologic studies, HEC-HMS and HECRAS 2D models, and hydraulic studies of riverine structures.

On any given day, you’ll:
Work with a team of H&H modelers to complete hydrologic and hydraulic analyses that meet standards set by state and federal authorities.
Manage workload to ensure that the work is produced on schedule, profitably, and in conformance with the quality standards of Ayres.
Coordinate and supervise water resources staff providing H&H support to other disciplines within Ayres, including bridge hydraulic analyses and floodplain evaluations.
Build and maintain respectful working relationships with Project Managers and Ayres leadership.
Support and participate in the development and mentorship of staff.
Assist in preparation of reports, proposals, and other written and verbal communications.
Required Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in civil/hydraulic/hydrologic engineering from an accredited university is the minimum requirement. A master’s degree in engineering with emphasis on H&H is preferred.
Registered professional engineer (PE) in a US state with ability to become licensed by comity in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado other states as needed for Ayres projects.
Experience using state-of-the-practice software for analysis of open channel flow, rainfall-runoff processes, and statistical hydrology.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of hydraulic and hydrologic engineering.
Ability to independently manage projects with budgets of 40 to 400 hours of engineering time.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
Proven communication skills including great client relationships and a willingness to market services to internal and external clients.
A valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Desired Skills and Experiences:
Experience establishing mutually respectful and collaborative relationships with dam owners, contractors, and regulatory agency personnel.
Previous experience in completing designs and submitting approved analyses for state- or federally-regulated projects is highly desirable.
Understanding of state dam and floodplain regulations, US Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation, and Federal Emergency Management Agency design standards for flood studies and dam conveyances.
Great communication skills and team interaction skills are desired, especially for projects that face intense regulatory review
Willingness to be located within commuting distance of Ayres’ Eau Claire WI, Roseville MN, Green Bay WI, or Ft Collins, CO offices. Note that Ayres allows flexible time, hybrid location options but places high value on in-person mentorship and networking opportunities.

Our good-faith compensation approach is fair and equitable, and takes into consideration only permissible factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, training, skills, and experience, and geographic location where the work is performed. A salary range for this posting is $80000 - $115000. The foregoing salary range represents what the company believes, in good-faith, it will pay for the posted opportunity. The individual selected for this role will be evaluated with the compensation factors in mind and placed appropriately.
