Through its design-once, build-many approach and coalition building across communities, regulators, and financial stakeholders, The Nuclear Company is committed to delivering safe and reliable electricity at the lowest cost, while catalyzing the nuclear industry toward rapid development in America and globally.

About the role:

We are seeking a skilled Hydrologist to support the development and operation of nuclear power generation facilities. The ideal candidate will specialize in water source identification and hydrologic site characterization, ensuring sustainable, reliable, and regulatory-compliant water supply for nuclear plant operations. You will play a critical role in evaluating surface and groundwater resources, assessing flood risks, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support safe and environmentally responsible nuclear energy projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and evaluate potential surface and groundwater sources to support nuclear plant cooling and operational needs.

  • Conduct hydrologic and hydrogeologic site assessments, including watershed analysis, aquifer characterization, and flood risk evaluation.

  • Analyze historical hydrologic data and conduct field investigations, including well drilling supervision and water quality sampling.

  • Develop and apply hydrologic models (e.g., MODFLOW, HEC-RAS) to simulate water availability, groundwater flow, and flood scenarios.

  • Collaborate with nuclear engineers, environmental scientists, and regulatory agencies to ensure water use complies with all applicable laws and safety standards.

  • Support preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and licensing documentation for regulatory approval.

  • Monitor and assess the potential impacts of plant operations on water resources and aquatic ecosystems.

  • Communicate technical findings clearly to project teams, regulators, and stakeholders.

  • Stay current with evolving water resource regulations, technologies, and best practices relevant to nuclear power development.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or related field.

  • 5+ years’ experience in hydrologic site characterization, preferably in the energy or industrial sector.

  • Strong knowledge of groundwater and surface water hydrology, water resource management, and hydrologic modeling software.

  • Familiarity with nuclear power plant water systems and regulatory frameworks (NRC, EPA, Clean Water Act) is highly desirable.

  • Experience preparing technical reports, Environmental Impact Assessments, and regulatory submissions.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.

  • Willingness to conduct fieldwork and site visits as required.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation packages

  • 401k with company match

  • Medical, dental, vision plans

  • Generous vacation policy, plus holidays

Estimated Starting Salary Range:

The estimated starting salary range for this role is $121,000 - $143,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a semi-monthly basis.  The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
