The IEP & Assessment Specialist plays a critical role in supporting students with exceptional needs by ensuring high-quality development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This position involves collaboration with families, educators, administrators, and district personnel to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and district regulations. The ideal candidate is highly organized, responsive, and committed to fostering positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate IEP meetings in collaboration with families and the Special Education team.
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs for students on the assigned caseload in compliance with school, district, and state guidelines.
- Ensure all documentation and IEP processes are accurate, timely, and consistent across building levels.
- Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and the district special education department.
- Provide academic interventions and direct special education services as needed to support student progress and team goals.
- Administer and interpret academic assessments for initial and triennial special education evaluations.
- Maintain CPI certification (or obtain upon hire) and apply de-escalation strategies in alignment with the Crisis Prevention Institute philosophy.
- Collaborate regularly with ELD Teachers, Gifted/Talented Coordinator, Interventionist, Special Education Staff and other staff regarding student needs and services.
- Attend and participate in team meetings, including weekly special education meetings and general education or MTSS meetings as required.
- Communicate essential information in a timely manner to the administrative team and participate in meetings as needed.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution with a valid state teaching license: Special Education Generalist 5-21 endorsement or Special Education Special Services Provider endorsement
- 3 years minimum experience in Special Education
- Experience with Learning Management Systems and Google preferred.
- Experience with Project Education Software preferred
- Excel at organizational tasks that involve many people and variables. Thrive in a diverse, intellectually challenging, entrepreneurial environment.
- Responsiveness: Follow-up and follow-through with students and faculty members is essential.
- Knowledge and the ability to work with both Mac and PC, Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Essential Physical Requirements:
- Occasional lifting of 5 to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand or walk for 90 minutes.
- Ability to run short distances.
- Frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, kneeling, crawling, squatting, reaching, and sitting.
