Job Description - IEP Coordinator

What is this job? 



The Individual Education Program Coordinator will oversee all aspects of the special education IEP team process for the entire school population. The IEP Coordinator will ensure The Strawbridge School operates in compliance with all state and federal (IDEA), state, and local regulations.  The IEP Coordinator will also ensure that special education data is collected and updated in a manner that meets all compliance expectations in accordance with specific state and/or Local School System specifications.  This role will also collaborate with the State Testing Coordinators(s) to ensure compliance with state mandated assessments as it pertains to graduation planning.  Lastly, the role will collaborate with educators, specialists, and families to ensure that students receive appropriate services, accommodations and support to succeed academically, behaviorally and socially.



What is the Strawbridge School?



The Strawbridge School is a non-public school approved by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). The program provides small, caring classroom settings guided by certified special education teachers.  


The school serves youth with emotional, behavioral, and/or intellectual challenges in a supportive and nurturing environment.   Our team addresses the unique educational needs of students who have been unable to thrive in a public-school setting. The Strawbridge School is one of several programs provided by the Board of Child Care, a national children and family-focused charity headquartered in Baltimore.

What does this job do specifically?

  • Remains knowledgeable of current trends and best practices in the field of special education.

  • Maintains accurate and complete records, files, etc. as required by The Strawbridge school’s policies and federal, state and local laws.

  • Establishes and enforces clear policies and practices for assessing, recording and reporting on pupil achievement in line with school policy.

  • Monitor compliance with special education processes and timelines across all programs; conduct internal audits as necessary.

  • Organize training to assure compliance with federal and state special education regulations.

  • Conduct staff development on IEP development and online IEP systems.

  • Oversee all aspects of IEP development, diagnostic assessments and annual/triennial reviews.

  • Facilitate IEP process, information exchange, preparation and scheduling for IEP meetings.

  • Oversee the development, tracking, dissemination and proper implementation of IEP mandated accommodations for students during state testing events.

  • Work closely with the Principal and Assistant Principal(s) with IEP data collection and analysis of academic goals and objectives.

  • Conduct pre-IEP meetings and review all IEP documents for accuracy and completion prior to IEP Team meetings.

  • Communicate changes in expectations from LSS representatives regarding IEP development and act as the primary point of contact for LSS representatives.

  • Serve as a liaison between families, school personnel and outside agencies regarding students’ special education services.

  • Serve as the Transportation Liaison between The Strawbridge School and local counties served

  • Actively participates in faculty and committee meetings.

  • Assists in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal process.

  • Conducts quarterly classroom observations to ensure compliance with IEP goals/objectives and accommodations/supplementary aids and services.

  • Promptly returns phone calls and answer emails.

  • Collaborates with the State Testing Coordinator properly identify the students and appropriate accommodations needed to participate in state assessments.

  • Collaborate with assessment teams to ensure appropriate evaluations and re-evaluations are conducted when necessary.

  • Support transition planning for students between grade levels or schools.

  • Maintains the confidentiality of student information.


 


 


What experience and education do I need?



Required Education and Experience



  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Special Education or related field

  • Certificated by Maryland State Department of Education in Special Education

  • Maintain a current MSDE certification in special education by fulfilling necessary course/credit requirements

  • Evidence of continued professional development



  • 3 years’ successful experience teaching in a relevant environment



Preferred Education and Experience



  • A Master’s degree in Special Education or related field and three years’ experience in the field.
