Position Summary
Licensed Vocational Nurse - Level 1 provides care to a specific group of patients as delegated by and under the supervision of an R.N./MD. The LVN collects data and reports significant findings to the RN/MD. An LVN Level 1 performs basic nursing skills and maintains positive interpersonal relations with peers, patients, patient’s families and physicians.
Essential Job Functions
· Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies and takes action to resolve compliance
questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
· Collects data and reports findings to RN/MD.
· Demonstrates skills in accordance with EIC Standards of Care, policies, procedures, and Nurse Practice Act.
· Demonstrates ability to independently perform basic and specialized nursing skills fundamental to the unit within
scope of practice.
· Maintains lab and other diagnostic test results and reports in a timely manner to RN/MD.
· Works under direction of RN/MD and completes assignments as directed.
· Utilizes non-patient care time to help other nurses and modalities.
· Starts IV safely and competently in addition to managing and treating IV infiltrations.
· Accesses implanted ports, PICC, and midline catheters for the administration of contrast media.
· Performs pre-procedure assessments, preparation and post-procedure care.
· Provides timely, accurate and precise reporting of any change in patient condition to the R.N./Radiologist.
· Appropriately assesses, treats, and manages patients for contrast allergies, renal function, diabetes,
claustrophobia, etc.
· Administers and documents medications (under direction of RNs / Medical Director), ensuring patient safety
following Federal guidelines.
· Co-manages the care of all outpatients/inpatients to include scheduling, interviewing, preparation and
transportation.
· Assists in the care of any patient with special needs.
· Manages medical emergencies under the guidance of the radiologists / RNs.
· Maintains all nursing and medical emergency equipment including (but not limited to) oxygen supply.
· Demonstrates competency in the operation of equipment specific to clinical area.
· Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity.
· Adheres to radiation safety guidelines under the direction of the technologists and/or radiologists.
· Provide for patient care; comfort, safety and patient confidentiality.
· Ability to manage high patient volumes.
· Assist technologists in the preparation of equipment and supplies for procedures
· Ensure that all equipment is properly cleaned and maintained
· Assist in the positioning of patients for procedures
· Monitor patients during procedures and report any adverse reactions to the technologists
· Maintain accurate records of procedures and patient information
· Assist in the transportation of patients to and from the procedure area
· Pick up & deliver packages to departments as needed.
· Return supplies carts to appropriate location
· Filling supplies cabinets
· Filling blanket warmers
· Checking in patients
· Assisting patients on and off the table
· Room turnover
· Cross train in all modalities at all locations.
· Greets and escorts all guests in and out of exam area.
· Assures positive patient identification
· Assists patients in completing screening and history forms if needed.
· Assists patients with changing clothing as necessary for procedure.
· Introduces patient/family to caregivers and explains their role in performing the exam.
· Assists technologists, nurses and other Center personnel as requested.
· Communicates planned procedure instructions to the patient in simple, understandable terms.
· Communicates with coworkers prior to breaks and lunches to ensure continuity of patient care.
· Assures that the patient exam room and changing areas are prepared with appropriate supplies and/or equipment.
· Remains in assigned location when not providing patient care to assist other staff as needed with room set ups,
clean up, etc.
· Looks up prior exam history and enters information on daily schedule.
· Confirms appointments with patients as needed.
· Loads IV contrast syringes and removes IVs as requested. (CT modality only)
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
· Responsible to keep license current and provide copy on annual basis.
· Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
· Good oral and written communication skills.
· Good problem-solving skills.
Required Position Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or Equivalent
· California LVN Licensure
· IV Therapy & Blood Withdrawal Certification
· American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
