Position Summary

The Incident Management Specialist is responsible for coordinating, documenting, and investigating incidents involving individuals supported by the organization, including allegations of Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation (ANE), critical incidents, and other reportable events that may impact an individual's health, safety, or well-being. This position ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations, agency policies, and Office for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (OIDD) reporting requirements. The Incident Management Specialist works collaboratively across departments to promote quality outcomes, risk reduction, and the protection of individual rights.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all OIDD requirements related to incident reporting, investigations, and follow-up activities.


• Receive, document, investigate, and monitor incidents, including allegations of Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation (ANE), critical incidents, and sentinel events.


• Take prompt and appropriate action in response to reported incidents to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of individuals supported.


• Complete required incident reports and submit notifications within established regulatory timeframes.


• Assist with administrative reviews and follow-up activities related to incident investigations.


• Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential records of investigations, reports, and corrective actions.


• Analyze incident trends and risk management data to identify opportunities for individual and system-wide improvements.


• Collaborate with program staff and leadership to implement corrective actions and preventative measures.


• Coordinate meetings with program teams as needed to address incidents, investigations, and quality improvement initiatives.


• Provide education and information to individuals supported, family members, and designated representatives regarding incident reporting processes and organizational policies.


• Assist with staff training on abuse and neglect prevention, individual rights, incident reporting requirements, and related topics.


• Serve as a resource to staff throughout North Carolina and Tennessee regarding ANE reporting, incident management procedures, and regulatory compliance.


• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, dignity, and respect for all individuals served.

Education & Experience

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field.


• Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or a related population if no degree is held.


• Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.


• Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.


• Proficiency in documentation, report writing, and record management.


• Knowledge of person-centered thinking and person-centered practices.


• Familiarity with state regulations related to Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation (ANE), critical incidents, and investigations.


• Experience working with regulatory agencies and compliance reporting processes.

Work Environment

This position operates primarily in a professional office environment. Regular interaction with staff, leadership, and cross-functional teams is required.

Physical Requirements

This role involves regular standing, walking, lifting (up to 15 lbs), and hands-on support. Reasonable accommodations are available.

Travel

Some local travel may be required. May be expected to attend statewide conferences and trainings.
