About the Job 

Inclusion counselors are additional support for campers with disabilities.  All Inclusion Counselors will be assigned to a camper(s) within a group, based by grade (Kindergarten-6th grade). Depending on the level of accommodation each child needs, Inclusion Counselors will be matched with 1-3 children.

You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:   

• Must account for and contribute towards the daily well-being of their assigned campers.  
• Assist their campers in the daily routine and group activities.  
• Adapt activities and facilitate social interaction.  
• Inclusion Counselors must participate in all activities with campers, including swimming and other water activities. 
• Maintain communication with the Disability & Inclusion Youth Manager and with their camper’s parents, including all necessary paperwork such as incident and accident reports  
• Other duties as assigned.  

Requirements

• Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old. Eligible candidates also must have graduated from High School or obtained a GED by the start of camp. Experience with children with disabilities is preferred. JCamps staff are required to pass all criminal history background checks, including an FBI fingerprint check. They must also obtain a current CPR and First-Aid certification. 
• Inclusion Counselors are based out of the Youth and Teen Office but will be expected to execute daily responsibilities throughout Shalom Austin’s campus. Inclusion Counselors will use specific areas as a home base for the bunk their campers are in. Due to the nature of the position, Inclusion Counselors must be able to be on their feet for most of the day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds. Inclusion Counselors must have the ability to be outside and handle Austin summer heat. 
• This position is a seasonal full-time position. The expected hours are from 8AM-4PM Monday through Friday, with opportunities to work until 5:30. Seasonal work begins June 1 and goes through August 1 with opportunities to work through August 15. Hours are subject to change based on the camp’s needs.
