Job Description - Indirect Loan Officer

Description

Timely and accurate underwriting/processing of all Indirect loan applications originated through CUDL for Auto, Motorcycle and Recreational Vehicles. Maintains and builds positive relationships with CUDL Dealers, Members, and all departments within the Credit Union.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with Dealers and Members and Consumer Loan Officers throughout the loan process to input loan data, reviewing the credit report, dealer contracts, membership documents and other supporting documents.
  • Calculate debt-to-income on loan applicants, estimate monthly obligations and determine members ability to repat along with securing collateral, as necessary. Record and verify all reasons for a decision. Explain decision to Dealers and Members that outline term, fees, and conditions of the loan.
  • Demonstrate a helpful, polite, and friendly attitude all times. 
  • Work with Dealers on clarifying additional information as needed to make a loan decision.
  • Ensures full compliance of all Indirect Lending/Consumer Lending policies and Procedures and all Federal regulations that pertain to members. 
  • Reaching out to all Indirect Members for onboarding.
  • Participate in testing of new indirect software and new software releases.
  • Assists with revisions and communicates any potential changes to Dealerships and Lending Department. 
  • Take any Dealership calls for escalations or questions.
  • Dealer Visits as Schedule allows.
  • Auditing of CUDL loans.
  • Some Monthly Reporting to be determined by Consumer Lending Manager. 
  • Responsible for following up on delinquent loan accounts, insurance needs and other issues that may arise. 
  • Maintain orderly files on each account with complete and accurate detailing of all correspondence for auditing purposes. 
  • Other job- related duties may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position. 

Work Relationships and Scope: The Indirect Lending Officer will report directly to the Retail Loan Department Manager. Has direct contact with Dealers, CUDL vendors and all departments of the Credit Union that are supporting the Indirect Department.

  • Provide outstanding service to members and auto dealers through excellent communication and thoroughly understand relevant issues and the administrative processes involved in choosing a proper course of action.
  • Ability to attend to numerous details with frequent interruptions under the stress of maintaining courteous, effective, and timely relations with a variety of individuals and personalities while keeping lending duties assigned a priority. 
  • Promotes quality, accuracy, timeliness, reliability, and thoroughness of work performed. 
  • Is punctual, flexible, reliable, and exhibits a friendly and helpful attitude while maintaining all information as confidential according to our policy.
  • Possess ability to gain the trust and respect of members, management, employees, and outside business contacts while maintaining a positive, professional working relationship.
  • Enhances job growth through feedback, continuing education, as required or necessary.
  • Coordinates schedule with Consumer Lending Manager. 
  • Professional, well-developed interpersonal skills essential for interviewing loan applicants, meeting with auto dealerships, and projecting a positive image as a representative of the Credit Union. 

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Education/Training: Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field preferred. Knowledge of the consumer, commercial, agricultural loan policies, credit granting criteria, interest rates and how they are computed, and required documentation for each type of loan needed. Knowledge of interviewing skills and techniques required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. 

Experience: Two or more years of experience in a Lending Capacity preferred but not required. Knowledge of general lending policies and ability to make a sound lending decision. Professional sales experience beneficial. 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and ability to apply current financial service industry standards, laws and regulations. 
  • Ability to work under the stress of dealing with a wide range of personalities and monitoring and reviewing the many details of loans to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Proficient operation of Word and Excel and Outlook along with general office equipment such copier, calculator, and telephone.
  • Comprehend consequences of various situations and refer them to the appropriate staff for resolution.
  • Manage personal workflow and meet deadlines set by Consumer Lending Manager by being organized, detailed and task oriented. 
  • Ability to meet attendance standards and work overtime hours as requested and approved. 
  • Ability in Finance/math to calculate ratios and add, subtract and multiply and divide as needed.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety/security procedures.

Working Conditions:

Job Conditions/Work Location: Majority of the work will be performed Remotely from home location however there will be times that are requested for in person meetings, training and potentially working out of an office as needed. Hours of work will generally be general hours that our Dealerships are open to include Saturday work on occasion. This position is 40 hours and there could be some variation in works hours due to special projects, deadlines, education and other concerns. The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate. Occasional out of town and overnight travel may be required for education. 

Hazards: No Known hazards; general office setting. While working with Dealers and Members, the employee may encounter abusive, aggressive or unpredictable behavior.

Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time to process transactions. Some standing, walking, climbing, bending stooping, lifting, and carrying of light materials. Also, will access files and records. Frequent mental and visual concentration required for the computer and phone system.
