Industrial Field Apprentice – Job Description

Baltimore, MD              Full-time

ETCH is a startup commercializing a radically new and efficient decarbonization technology for the simultaneous greenhouse gas-free production of hydrogen and solid carbon from natural gas.  

The Industrial Field Apprentice position at ETCH, INC will operate and maintain systems, equipment and implement procedures used in the ETCH Process.  Primary duties are maintenance, testing, and monitoring of ETCH’s pilot reactor, assistance in assembly and disassembly of the reactor, maintenance of the reactor site, and collecting and analyzing performance data of the pilot reactor.

Other duties include:

• Learn all aspects of the ETCH process with the goal of being able to troubleshoot any deviations that may result in reliability issues or deficiencies.


• Learn to operate computer controls system of the reactor.


• Learn to perform inspections of equipment and daily preventative maintenance tasks as required.


• Assist in the repair mechanical and electrical systems including valves, piping, pumps, motors, etc.


• Follow safe systems and procedures for individuals and groups working with potentially dangerous and combustible chemicals, particularly but not limited to natural gas, hydrogen, hydrogen chloride, carbon powders and metal salts


• Comply with processes and equipment to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations


• Upkeep of regular usage logs and miscellaneous record keeping


• Upkeep of personal development progress


• Flexible work schedule including the occasional third shift

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with hand tools required


• Communication skills and experience with Microsoft office


• Must be able to work safely and follow safety protocols in industrial environments (outdoors, temperature, humidity, noise, confined spaces, etc.).


• Document work performed


• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas


• Participate in training and skill development


• Reliable transport to site


• Able to lift 50lbs


• Willing to work on lifts and at height

An ability to work under lead technician instruction toward timely execution of goals is required. This position will also require working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Salary: $50,000 to $55,000
