SUMMARY
This position supports the design and testing of laboratory chemical fume hoods. The role assists with developing test protocols, performing product evaluations, and verifying performance against applicable standards.
The Industrial Hygienist works closely with product development, engineering, manufacturing, and sales teams and provides technical support to internal teams and dealer partners. This position contributes to product development, documentation, CFD modeling, and training efforts under the guidance of senior staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Assist in the development of laboratory chemical fume hood products.
· Support evaluation, testing, and documentation of new and existing products to validate safety and performance.
· Learn and maintain familiarity with competitive products, emerging technologies, and market trends.
· Participate in product testing to ensure compliance with SEFA, UL, NFPA, ASHRAE, OSHA, and other applicable standards.
· Assist with troubleshooting, installation, and service of company products as needed; some travel may be required.
· Support research into new technologies and design approaches to improve product quality and competitiveness.
· Help develop training materials and assist with fume hood training programs.
· Use Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools for basic fume hood design and laboratory safety analysis under supervision.
· Document test results, procedures, and design changes clearly and accurately.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field with 0–2 years of relevant experience; or Associate’s degree in a technical field with 2–4 years of related experience.
Applicants should have a basic understanding of exhaust ventilation, engineering principles, and chemistry. Familiarity with CFD tools and laboratory environments is a plus. This role is designed for early-career professionals and includes on-the-job training. Some travel may be required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and understand safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write clear reports and basic technical documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with team members and customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and interpret simple charts and graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out multiple step instructions. Ability to deal with non-standardized situations with many complex variables. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several abstract variables in non-standardized situations. Ability to apply logic when solving complex problems and developing tentative solutions.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Interest in product design and laboratory safety.
· Basic understanding of laboratory ventilation systems and how fume hoods integrate into buildings.
· Willingness to learn industry standards and testing methods (e.g., ASHRAE 110, DIN 14175)
· Strong attention to detail and documentation.
