Job Description - Industrial Radiographer - Level II


  

Reports to: Test Lab Supervisor   Work Location: Clear Lake, SD

Functional Area: Quality   Required Travel: None

Exempt Status: Non-Exempt Salary Range: TBD

Job Summary: The Quality Technician NDT (nondestructive testing) Level II technician will perform, and interpret NDT tests, calibrate and set up equipment, and document findings to identify non-conformances and defects. The technician works with other staff to ensure product quality and integrity. 

First Consideration Date: 6/6/2025

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Performs NDT inspections using digital and film radiography techniques in accordance with written procedures and industry standards (e.g., ASNT, ASTM, NAS 410, etc.).

2. Interprets radiographic images and identifies flaws or discontinuities such as cracks, voids, and inclusions.

3. Prepares and sets up radiographic equipment, including X-ray and gamma-ray sources, imaging systems, and shielding.

4. Ensures accurate documentation of inspection results, including written reports and image archiving.

5. Works with engineering and quality teams to assess component compliance and recommends corrective actions.

6. Maintains a safe working environment and ensures all activities comply with radiation safety regulations and company policies.

7. Works with the calibration department to ensure equipment maintains calibration and performs basic maintenance of NDT equipment to ensure optimal performance.

8. Participates in audits, procedure reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

9. Trains and mentors Level I NDT personnel, as appropriate.

10. Performs other work-related tasks as assigned.


Requirements

  

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States (ITAR restrictions).

2. Must be at least 18 years of age to work at this facility. 

3. Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for all employees of Tech Ord.

4. High school diploma or GED is required. 

5.  Certification as NDT Level II in Radiographic Testing (RT) per ASNT SNT-TC-1A, NAS 410, or equivalent.

6. Proficient in both digital (DDA/CR) and conventional film radiography methods.

7. Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in radiographic NDT.

8. Familiarity with applicable industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, AWS, API).

9. Strong attention to detail and excellent visual acuity.

10. Training in general safety, standard operating procedures/quality instructions- specific to job and/or program required.

11. Ability to work independently and with other employees as part of a team.

12. Ability to communicate and document effectively in English.

While performing the duties of this job: 

1. Ability to talk and hear to communicate with others. 

2. Seated work for up to 90% of the workday. 

3. Occasionally required to stand and/or walk both indoors and outdoors. 

4. Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, as well as reach with hands and arms. 

5. Must be able to bend, squat, lift to maneuver parts for X-ray. 

6. Lifting of 10 pounds is required. Must be able to move materials by lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds with assistance.  

7. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus when viewing a computer monitor. The ability to maintain continuous mental and visual attention is required. 

8. Eyesight correctable to 20/20 vision is required. 

9. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives. 

10. Ear protection is required as identified throughout the facility. 

11. Where required employees must wear a minimum of 50 percent cotton clothing including undergarments to mitigate electrostatic discharge (ESD). Employees must also wear company issued safety footwear.
