The Refrigeration Technician is responsible for performing maintenance, repair, and system support for refrigeration equipment within the plant. This role evaluates equipment performance and recommends improvements to enhance efficiency, system capability, and operational output.
Key Responsibilities
Install, maintain, and repair industrial refrigeration systems, including ammonia-based systems, as well as related equipment such as water heaters, boilers, air compressors, fan coil units, and air handling units
Perform routine maintenance including filter changes, lubrication, bearing replacements, and drive belt servicing
Modify and troubleshoot refrigeration systems, including system controls and software
Fabricate and install sheet metal components and ductwork to support refrigeration systems
Conduct HAZMAT and safety inspections to ensure compliance and safe operation of refrigeration equipment
Perform preventative maintenance and repair services on refrigeration and air conditioning systems across the facility
Maintain inventory of parts, materials, and supplies required for refrigeration system upkeep
Support continuous improvement by identifying and recommending equipment and process enhancements
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Six (6) months of refrigeration experience in an ammonia manufacturing environment
Licenses & Certifications
Boiler License
Level 1 Certification
Ability to obtain Level 2 Certification
Preferred Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills (reading, writing, speaking)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) processes and procedures
Strong understanding of refrigeration system operations and maintenance practices
Ability to diagnose issues and implement effective solutions in a production environment
Work Environment & Schedule
Ability to work various shifts, including overnight, weekends, and holidays
Work performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to varying temperatures (approximately 35°F to 95°F and occasionally above)
Exposure to moving mechanical components, chemicals, fumes, and industrial noise levels
Physical Requirements
Regular standing and repetitive use of hands and fingers
Frequent walking and reaching overhead
Occasional bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting (minimum 10 lbs.)
Visual requirements include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
