Job Description - Infant Lead Teacher (Full Time)

Job Summary:


Under the direction of the Early Childhood Director, the Lead oversees infants' day-to-day activities and care routines in the Glencoe Park District Children's Circle Program.




Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • At least two years of college credit, including six hours in Early Childhood Education from an accredited institution.

  • An early Childhood Education degree or a degree in a related field is preferred.

  • Previous experience in a DCFS-licensed program is preferred.

  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification within three months of hire.

  • Food Handler Certificates within 30 days of hire.

  • DCFS Lead and Assistant qualifications required.

  • All DCFS required paperwork within 60 days of hire.

  • All full-time employees must pass a criminal background check, drug test, and physical exam which the Glencoe Park District will cover.


Required Knowledge:


Must possess knowledge of DCFS licensing standards. Staff members should demonstrate a thorough understanding of a preschool child's physical, emotional, social, and cognitive developmental patterns.


 


Must be able to provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum. Must be able to adjust classroom programs to meet children's individual needs. Must be able to evaluate the progress of individual children in the classroom.




Required Skills:


Must be able to plan and supervise a developmentally appropriate classroom. Must possess good oral and written communication skills and demonstrate developmentally appropriate discipline methods. The Lead should demonstrate warmth and acceptance of the children with consistent nurturing. The Lead shall develop and contribute to a harmonious workplace in teacher's relationships with coworkers.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Provide planning and execution of appropriate early childhood education experiences with various materials in art, music, literature, science, and mathematics.

  • Promote and supervise activities that promote each child's healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development.

  • Provide and maintain a neat, organized classroom; take responsibility for the upkeep of all educational equipment and materials.

  • Be seated at the table during all meals and snacks to assist in the development of good nutrition habits.

  • Maintain documentation of the progress of each child's growth and development.

  • Work with parents whenever possible to promote understanding of their child's growth and development in school. Encourage parent participation in school programs whenever necessary. Attend parent groups and other school functions whenever possible.

  • Supervise all activities to ensure the safety of each child at all times.

  • Maintain lesson plans and review learning activities with the Program Manager.

  • Assist the children in self-care routines.

  • Assist in clean-up activities.

  • Opens and/or closes the center as required.

  • Responsible for administering any prescribed medication.

  • Work extra hours as necessary.

  • Relate sensitively, compassionately, and positively to the children and families.

  • Interact with children throughout the day. Staff are expected to speak to children at their eye level and play with them during free play and large motor times when possible.

  • Follow all Park District policies.

  • Follow all DFCS regulations.

  • Write weekly notes detailing the prior week's activities.

  • Perform any other assigned duties.

  • Communicate appropriately to families using the Brightwheel app.


Hours:


Due to the nature of park district programming, evening, weekend, and some holiday hours may be expected.



Pay Scale:


This is a Full-Time, non-exempt position. The intended starting pay for this position is $22 per hour, with a full pay scale ranging from $22 per hour to $33 per hour.



Final compensation will be determined in good faith based on an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications, experience, and the recommendation of the Early Childhood Director or the Executive Director.
