JOB SUMMARY: Coordinates the infection prevention and employee health programs throughout the organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organizes the Infection Prevention Committee.
  • Assures the committee meets no less than quarterly.
  • Works in collaboration with the medical director for the committee.
  • Sets the meeting agenda and maintains the minutes.
  • Reports infection prevention information to the medical staff as needed.
  • Develops a system for identifying, investigating, reporting, and preventing the spread of infections and communicable diseases among patients and personnel, including contract staff and volunteers.
  • Maintains a log of all incidents related to infections and communicable diseases, including those identified through employee health services.
  • The log is not limited to nosocomial infections.
  • The log includes documentation of infections and communicable diseases of patients and all staff (patient care, non-patient care, employees, contract staff, and volunteers).
  • In cooperation with the Infection Prevention Committee and Human Resources, writes and implements policies and procedures governing infection prevention and employee health.
  • Policies and procedures must reflect nationally recognized infection prevention guidelines, as well as federal and state regulations related to employee health in hospitals.
  • Policies and procedures will be updated at least annually and more often as necessary as standards of practice and/or internal processes change.
  • Prevents and controls the spread of infections and communicable diseases among patients and staff.
  • Provides education regarding appropriate precautions for the spread of communicable diseases and monitors for adherence.
  • Provides education regarding infection preventions and employee health including, but not limited to, new employee orientation and in-service education.
  • Communicates with state and local health authorities; cooperates with disease control activities and disseminates information to appropriate staff.
  • Provides and/or arranges for necessary health services for employees; maintains and secures required health information for employees.
  • Coordinates and implements all outpatient nursing services including, but not limited to:
  • Chemotherapy scheduling and administration
  • Wound clinic patient care and follow up
  • Outpatient infusions and injections
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa
  • Dependent Adult and Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred
