The Clinical Informatics (CI) Nurse works with teams and individuals as an integral part of healthcare delivery and a differentiating factor in the selection, implementation, and evaluation of health IT that supports safe, high quality, patient-centric care. S/he is involved in evaluating and selecting the technology; determining end-user requirements and customizing functionality; and designing and delivering training. The CI Nurse develops an understanding of the application functionality, reporting capabilities, interfacing and integration associated with clinical applications. S/he looks for opportunities to integrate new technology with existing systems, creates transparency of information and real time monitoring of processes, with testing and the analysis of the effectiveness of the computer systems. The CI Nurse demonstrates excellent communication, leadership and project management skills and is able to build and maintain positive relationships, conduct and facilitate effective meetings and work with teams and individuals to achieve desired outcomes. S/he delegates, monitors and provides direction and feedback as required to achieve desired results. The CI Nurse ensures development and implementation of effective and affordable methods for providing required education to users incorporating web-based systems, quick reference tools, and mentor supported reinforcement. The CI Nurse works with Department Managers and Huma Resources to assure that orientation and ongoing education for technology and systems is provided to staff, and patrons. S/he serves as the clinical informatics resource and supports and participates in activities related to informatics such as site visits, internal and external presentations and supports overall goals of the department and organization. S/he is the ambassador between healthcare delivery and IT, and maintains a reporting relationship with operational leadership. S/he oversees the integration of data, information and knowledge to support decision-making by patients and their healthcare providers. The CI Nurse exhibits behaviors that enhance professional performance and reflect the key moral commitment, ethical principles, values and philosophy of Mid-Valley Hospital and Clinic.
SPECIFICATIONS
· Provides guidance and direction for Clinical Informatics Activities throughout the Medical Center
· In collaboration with vendors, manages projects and activities required for successful implementation and maintenance of clinical information systems and acts as identified resource for clinical informatics for the medical center.
· Provides guidance and facilitation for teams during initial design and development of clinical information systems and enhancements, including planning for successful implementation, maintenance and sustainability.
· Works with managers, informatics mentors, clinical staff and physicians to facilitate effective integration of informatics systems into daily operations.
· Works with the Chief Nursing Officer and IT to prioritize approved clinical informatics projects, activities, and resource (hardware, location, etc.) use based on pre-defined criteria.
· Provides guidance for those submitting new requests, working with vendors to determine timelines for approved requests and keeps requestor informed of project status including estimated testing and go-live dates.
· Works with the CNO to continue to develop an infrastructure to support ongoing clinical informatics activities and support systems.
· Encourages broad participation in design and implementation of the MVH clinical informatics tools and systems.
· With the support of the CNO, assures user participation in evaluation of existing informatics tools and systems and identification of future needs.
· Periodically evaluates MVH Clinical Informatics systems and methodologies by comparing to best practices and presents this information to the CNO
· Acts as a liaison between MVH, patrons, and vendors for Clinical Informatics activities.
· Provides guidance to teams during initial design efforts to assure systems operate in a consistent manner, reduce redundant work effort, integrate with existing systems and processes and are built to produce meaningful reports from data contained within system databases.
· Provides input when updating policies, procedures and training documents as required.
· Provides information and reports as designated by hospital leadership and department managers.
· Provides effective presentations that meet audience requirements. Coach- effective presentation for other team members.
· Attends designated internal and external meetings to gain information, provide input, and to identify opportunities where informatics tools and systems can provide support for processes, activities, documentation and reporting requirements and other expectations necessary for delivering safe and effective patient care
· Provides data and reports to managers based on audits and analysis of informatics related issues.
· Uses fiscal reports to provide input to the CNO for the budget.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Reports for scheduled shift on time and prepared to assume responsibilities.
· Reports to work in proper uniform/attire.
· Leaves for meal break on time and returns on time.
· Varies work schedule to meet the needs of the department.
· Ensures the department manager has approved all scheduled overtime.
· Seek supervisor approval before working beyond scheduled hours that will result in overtime.
· Schedules all time off with supervisor’s approval.
· Strictly adheres to hospital attendance/tardiness policies 100% of the time.
· Performs all duties as assigned.
· Wears I.D. badge in a visible location at all times on hospital property.
· Protects I.D. and access badge and reports any issues or loss immediately to supervisor or to the Human Resource Department.
2. Attends and participates in meetings and is responsible for information communicated at meetings and in email.
· Attends all mandatory in service on a timely basis as scheduled.
· Participates as an active team member at staff meetings.
· Reads communications and acts upon in a positive and informative manner.
3. Responds to all training/recertification notices timely and completes required training and/or recertification prior to deadline or expiration.

5. Assists all patients, family members, physicians, visitors, and employees in a professional and courteous manner.

6. Follows Infection Control procedures at all times.
· Clinical Personnel: Strictly adheres to standard precautions by adhering to the usage of personal protective equipment when handling blood or body fluids.
· Non-Clinical Personnel: Washes hands and other skin surfaces with soap and water thoroughly and often in an effort to control spreading of germs within the department and facility.
· Adheres to isolation procedures at all times as applicable.
7. Adheres to the following environmental care standards.
· Demonstrates adequate knowledge of safety policies and procedures, the use of MSDS sheets, hazardous material procedures, and safety codes.
· Respond appropriately to any Codes while working any shift (Code Blue, Code Gray, Code Silver, Code Amber, Code Red, Code Orange, and Rapid Response Team).
· Demonstrates adequate knowledge of security issues, i.e. personal protection, protection of personal and hospital property.
8. Be familiar with and comply with the Mid-Valley Hospital & Clinic Personnel Handbook and Policies.
9. Be familiar with the collective bargaining agreement (Union Contract) of the UFCW3000 and Mid-Valley Hospital.
10. Demonstrates the ability to adapt to varied age-specific patient populations. Non-Clinical Personnel: This position has no responsibility for the assessment, treatment, or care of patients. However, the ability to communicate and interact with patients of all ages is required.
Mid-Valley Hospital offers a benefit package. This includes accrued vacation time in the amount of .076923 vacation hours per hour worked. Accrued sick leave at an accrual of .04615 per hour, Life insurance and a profit-sharing plan. We also offer medical, dental and vision insurance plans. Employees can enroll in a 403(b) deferred compensation plan and/or a 457 deferred compensation plan.
Requirements
1) Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse In Washington State
2) Bachelor’s degree required.
3) Minimum of three (3) years of experience in informatics, Cerner experience preferred.
4) Substantial experience working in hospital nursing services required.
Demonstrated knowledge of organizational systems, operational and clinical care processes, practice standards and regulatory agency requirements Physical Demands: Physically able to accomplish work as outlined; stamina and ability to cope with high stress levels; near visual acuity.
5) Emotional Demands: Demonstrated emotional stability, able to function appropriately and effectively in critical, unexpected and stressful situations.
6) Key Competencies/Skills: Leadership in collaborative style; strong analytical skills; understanding and sensitivity to cost of healthcare and integration of cost and quality; able to manage multiple and complex activities and priorities; preference for competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, Capture Pro, and Power Point; strong facilitation and consultation skills; teaching and presentation abilities.
