Full Time Information Security Technician

to work on-site from our Oyster Point Bldg. in Newport News, VA.

Job Summary:

Completes tasks designed to ensure the security of the organization's systems and information assets. Monitors against unauthorized access, modification, or destruction of critical information systems. Works with end-users to determine the needs of individual departments, implements policies or procedures, and tracks compliance throughout the organization. Has knowledge of common concepts, practices, and procedures within the information security field.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:

Monitors assigned security and/or 3rd party tools for security issues. Ensures issues are resolved or mitigated. Assigned tools include, but are not limited to, endpoint protection; access controls; network controls, or third-party managed services.
Audits permissions and access rights using assigned security and/or 3rd party tools.
Audits end-user use, access agreements or requests pertaining to remote access, security files, onboarding, offboarding/terminations, and transfers.
Works with Information Security Analyst to research and recommend security enhancements to management.
Supports incident responses and investigations as requested, reporting findings and actions taken to management.
Supports information security policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
Investigates and prepares reports that document security incidents and other related items.
Communicates information security best practices to end-users, including reasons for problems, request or incident status, or other relevant security information.
Provides assistance, support, and training to end-users as required.
Informs management of activities and of any significant problems or concerns. Provides suggestions for improved service.
Responds to end-user requests promptly.
Maintains knowledge of current IT security technologies, trends, and news.
Completes special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:

CompTIA Security + or higher security-related certification required.
Two-year degree in Information Security or actively working towards a degree in Cybersecurity or Information Security is strongly preferred.
